Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
1 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Jerrell Jimenez! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Sandro Gama! The judges for this bout are Summer Carpenter, Francis DeMontford and Hugh Johnson.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Gama with a nice cross. Sloppy strikes from Gama. Those never looked like landing. Gama throws a combination but it was largely blocked by Jimenez. Jimenez throws a big counter combination but Gama scrambles out of danger and avoids any damage. Jimenez darts in and lands a nice takedown into half guard. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Gama wants to control but Jimenez is keeping busy.
Jimenez looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks Gama with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Gama is striking from the bottom but he's now found himself mounted! Oh dear - not enough focus on defense there.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Jimenez punishing his opponent with strikes.
That's one minute gone in the round. Gama wants to control but Jimenez is having none of it. Jimenez blocks Gama's feeble attempts to strike from the bottom. Gama wants to control but Jimenez is having none of it. Gama is desperately trying to get back to half guard.
Gama's corner are shouting for him to stand up but that's bad cornering - how is he meant to stand up when he's mounted? He should be looking to improve his position on the ground before trying to stand back up. Jimenez lands a nice shot to the head. Gama in a bad spot here, taking shots to the head.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Gama wants to hold on but Jimenez pushes him away. Jimenez connects with a couple of good shots from mount.

Jimenez breaks from Gama's wrist control and lands an elbow. Jimenez sitting in mount, just looking to control for the moment. Jimenez landing strikes, looking to finish! The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here. Jimenez takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Jimenez is still in mount, landing shots to his trapped opponent. Gama can't stay in a position like this for much longer.
Gama throwing punches from his back but nothing is landing. Jimenez looking to control and managing it successfully. Jimenez's ground tactics aren't going to win him many fans. Let's hope he's got fireworks for us if he gets back to his feet because he's not doing much on the ground. Gama is in a horrible position here. Jimenez smacks him with another shot as he tries to escape the position.

That's four minutes gone in the round. Gama wants to control but Jimenez is having none of it. Jimenez controlling from mount. We've been informed that Gama has been working hard on his conditioning in the buildup to the fight. Jimenez prevents Gama from getting the reversal. Gama tries to improve his position but Jimenez has taken his back! Jimenez has a choke - it's sunk in pretty tight... Will Gama tap? No... maybe... yes! He's tapped! Jimenez pushes Gama away and gets up to celebrate with his corner!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:56 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (RNC). Jerrell Jimenez!
