Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Eirik Rivfader (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Samuel Adams (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Both fighters look fresh as a daisy as they make their way towards the cage.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Rivfader closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.
Adams tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Rivfader wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control.

Rivfader thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead.
The referee asks Rivfader politely if he wouldn't mind getting on with it and actually doing something. Rivfader prefers to stall for the moment though.

Rivfader decides to stand up, so the ref orders Adams to his feet.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

It looks like Samuel Adams has been cut.
Adams is trying to drag Rivfader to the mat but Rivfader just about manages to keep his footing. He used the cage to his advantage there.

Adams tries to slip a leg under to move to half guard but Rivfader presses down on the leg and jumps into full mount!
Adams is wriggling around trying to escape.

Adams sneaks a leg back under and regains half guard and is working straight away to try and get back to guard. He hasn't managed just yet though.

Rivfader escapes and gets back to his feet.
A telegraphed takedown attempt from Adams is defended easily by Rivfader.

Rivfader has picked Adams up - he's going for a ride! Rivfader dumps his opponent to the mat with a thud and settles into half guard.

Adams shoots in looking for a takedown but Rivfader manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Adams's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away.

Adams is working on a leg, looking for a takedown but Rivfader is defending well.

Rivfader thows some rabbit punches from the bottom but they don't do any damage.
Rivfader has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.

Rivfader is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.

Rivfader postures up and decides to stand up, from the half guard. The ref calls for Adams to stand up.

Rivfader sneaks out the side door and pushes Adams away - he's back to his feet. The crowd show their appreciation for the escape.

Adams tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in to close the distance. Rivfader manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat.
Horrible takedown attempt by Adams or perhaps it was just good defense by Rivfader, which made it look bad.

Adams is not content to let Rivfader control the position.
Rivfader remains in side control and seems content to stay there. It's a versatile position from which he can work both strikes and submissions, whilst maintaining that control, so maybe he'll sit here for a while.
