The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Bong shoots in and gets a takedown into Kartal's guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Bong has gone for a leg lock! Kartal slips out almost immediately though and dives into Bong's guard.
Bong is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.
Kartal tries to get to full guard but Bong has control of the leg.
Kartal slips a foot under and gets full guard. Nice work.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Bong trying to control the position from guard on top but Kartal is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Kartal looking for a guillotine here but Bong defends easily.

Kartal seems keen to control rather than go for a submission, at least for now.

Bong content to sit in guard, stalling... Great. Oh but he could get punished here because Kartal has locked up a guillotine! Kartal's face is contorted as he sqeezes tight on the submission attempt - will he finish? Bong is holding on here and Kartal must be using up a lot of energy. Bong has gone limp! He's out! He's out cold! Kartal gets to his feet, tossing aside his stricken foe. Arms raised, he milks the applause from the crowd. Great submission!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:48 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Guillotine). Demir Kartal!
During a confident post fight interview, Demir Kartal thanked all his fans. He seemed very genuine when describing how motivated his fans keep him.
The defeated The Bong had this to say: 'Obviously, my opponent is on the juice... I demand a full investigation into this travesty... This aggression WILL NOT stand!'.
