Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
7 - 7 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Laam OvGod! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
5 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Caliman Matos! The judges for this bout are Ryoma Takatsuka, Colin Fray and Chris Saunders.

OvGod ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Matos moves away. OvGod lands with a nice body punch. OvGod looks to have improved his striking defense since last time we saw him fight. Matos closes this distance looking for a takedown but OvGod circles away.
Matos gets a double leg takedown into OvGod's guard. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. OvGod working the defensive guard well to avoid strikes from Matos. Matos passes into half guard. OvGod knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Matos on the ground.
Matos is thinking about going for an arm triangle but he can't free his leg.
Matos seems to be looking for submissions.
OvGod tries to roll over but Matos keeps him under control. Matos wants to pass to mount but OvGod is defending the position.

OvGod in a bad spot here, taking shots to the head. Matos prevents OvGod from getting the reversal.
OvGod has left one of his arms exposed and Matos doesn't need a second invitation. He's isolated it and locked on a tight armbar. OvGod screams and taps out, obviously in a lot of pain. Hopefully there isn't permanent damage to that arm.
Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:49 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Armbar). Caliman Matos! Caliman Matos was full of energy after the big win and talked about how he thinks he can do big things in this sport. The crowd were appreciative of his determination to succeed.
