Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Chadwick Acevedo!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, JT Howitz!

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Howitz closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Howitz lands in his opponent's guard.
Howitz throws a big right hand that misses.
Acevedo is adopting a defensive guard.

Howitz drops back for a leg but he's not going to get it - he lets go and Acevedo dives on top into guard.


Acevedo drops back, looking for a kneebar! Howitz looks panicked! The fighters roll across the mat, one looking to finish, one looking to escape. Howitz looks to have wriggled free... Yes, he's got his leg free and he's dived into side control! Good work there from Howitz!

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Howitz throwing strikes but Acevedo manages to buck up and roll into a nice reversal - now he's on top in side control!

Acevedo thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Acevedo wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Howitz, who protects the arm well.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Howitz is looking to regain half guard here but Acevedo keeps moving and retains side control.
Howitz wants to escape from the position here - easier said than done!

Acevedo has had enough of the ground for now and decides to stand.
Acevedo throws a sloppy head kick and Howitz moves out of range easily.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.

Howitz closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming Acevedo to the mat! Acevedo manages to get full guard.

Acevedo working for a triangle but Howitz defends it easily.
The fighters are going at a pretty good pace and they're both starting to sweat now.
Howitz throws a strike but Acevedo rolls with it and manages to sweep. Now he's in guard on top.

Howitz has a closed guard, preventing Acevedo from standing up.
Acevedo controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling.

Howitz pushes Acevedo off and gets back to his feet.

That's three minutes gone in the round.

Howitz clinches up against the cage.

Howitz has Acevedo pressed up against the cage. He's trying to work for a single leg takedown. Howitz pulls back from the cage and twists to the side, sending Acevedo tumbling to the mat - Howitz dives into Acevedo's guard.
Howitz landing some decent shots from guard.

Acevedo looking for submissions off his back, moving his hips, looking for an opening.
Howitz tries to free his leg and advance position but Acevedo is retaining full guard.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Acevedo is trying to keep Howitz in close.
Howitz postures up and lands some nice ground and pound.
Howitz throwing strikes from guard but Acevedo blocks nicely.
Howitz with a flurry of punches that miss.
Acevedo trying to keep a closed guard but Howitz is proving a slippery customer.

Acevedo escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Howitz gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.
Acevedo is breathing heavily.
Howitz cracks Acevedo with a solid left hand.


Acevedo is rocked!
Howitz postures up from his opponent's guard, before exploding into some vicious ground and pound! Acevedo covers up, he's hurt! Howitz keeps throwing the strikes, glancing at the referee... Will he stop it?? One more big shot from Howitz and the ref steps in to end the fight! Howitz can't hide his delight as he celebrates with his corner.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:55 of round 1, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). JT Howitz!
After winning the bout, JT Howitz thanked all his fans and promised he'd do even better in his next fight. The crowd seemed to love his humility.
