PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Johnny Williams (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Timothy Ray (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). I'm sure you'll be fascinated to know that I was talking to some pointless Z list celebrity before the fight and he thought that Timothy Ray was going to win. Let's see if he was right.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Johnny Williams!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Timothy Ray!
The judges for this bout are Hirohito Nitta, Yuuki Gou and Sosuke Kotani.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Williams closes the distance and clinches up with Ray, looking for a takedown. Williams pushes Ray against the ropes but Ray circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.
Williams fails with a takedown attempt from distance.
Ray swings for the body but Williams moves out of range.
Ray changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Williams tries to avoid it but Ray manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Williams to the ground. Williams escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
Williams blocks the body kick.
Ray throws a jab, cross combination which is slipped
letting Williams counter with a right hand.
Ray throws a head kick but Williams moves out of range.
Williams will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Johnny Williams. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Ray gets his takedown attempt stuffed easily

and Williams holds on and brings the fighters into a clinch.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Williams pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.

and Williams counters with a one-two to the body.
Williams shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Ray as he avoids it easily.
Ray feints the counter takedown.
Ray closes this distance looking for a takedown but Williams circles away.

Williams forces Ray back against the ropes and clinches.
Williams keeps control of Ray as he tries to wriggle out of the double underhooks.

Williams breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
Ray takes a kick to the side of the head.
Ray defends well against a solid takedown attempt from Williams.

Williams has closed the distance and engaged Ray in a clinch.
Ray has dropped down and is looking to force the takedown but it's defended by Williams after a bit of a struggle.

This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Williams pulls Ray into guard.
Ray preventing the sweep.
Williams wants to stand but Ray is controlling the position.
Ray wants to pass the guard but Williams is keeping the position.
Williams pulls Ray in close to prevent any damage.

Williams has control of Ray's left arm, preventing Ray from doing any damage.
We must be close to a standup if these guys don't pick up the pace.
Williams is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Williams fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Ray avoids it really well and circles away.
Williams dives in and grabs Ray's left leg, looking for a takedown. Ray pushes down on Williams's head and hops out.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.

Williams closes the distance and clinches.
Williams has hold of a leg and is looking for a trip takedown. Ray avoids it nicely though and we remain in the clinch.
Ray is trying to slow down the pace in the clinch, to catch his breath.

Williams escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Ray shoots in but doesn't get the takedown
and Williams counters nicely by changing levels and landing a hook to the body.

Williams fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Ray, pushing him back against the ropes.
Williams wants a takedown.
Ray throws a punch but it's blocked by Williams.
Ray tries to throw a body punch but Williams avoids it by throwing Ray back against the ropes.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the ring so we can get back down to business.


Williams misses with a double jab.
Williams keeps the fight on the outside.
Williams shuffles to his left behind two crisp jabs. Ray eats them both and turns towards Williams to reposition himself and eats a stinging right hand-left hook combo.
Ray misses with a hook.
Williams throws a body kick that digs right into the meat.
Williams slips a jab from Ray.
Johnny Williams is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.

The fight moves into the clinch position.

Williams breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.

Williams misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out.
Williams checks a low kick. Bone on bone - not my idea of a good time.

Williams tries to drive through with a takedown attempt but Ray defends well and Williams ends up having to push Ray into the ropes where they will battle it out in the clinch.

It looks like Timothy Ray has been cut.

Ray drops down for a takedown but doesn't get it.

Williams breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
Williams is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Ray can do to turn this around?

Williams's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.
Williams moves into range and lands a nice leg kick.
Nice takedown defense from Ray. No joy for Williams on that attempt.
Williams shoots in but no luck this time.
Ray throws a counter combo.
Ray stuffs the takedown attempt from Williams. Williams gets slowly back to his feet.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Ray moves in looking to clinch but Williams pushes him off.
As Ray tries to get set, Williams tries to push him back and clinch up but Ray manages to avoid the attempt.

Ray wants to get back to full guard but Williams has mounted him!
Ray is wriggling around trying to escape.
Williams takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.

Williams looking to control and managing it successfully.
Ray avoids a series of strikes thrown by Williams.
Williams sitting in mount, just looking to control for the moment.
Williams prevents Ray from getting the reversal.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business. This is the final round!


Williams will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.
Ray shoots in looking for a takedown but Williams manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Ray's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away.

Ray tries to keep at a distance but Williams has taken the fight into the clinch.

Williams jumps guard and drags Ray to the mat. He's obviously going to be looking for submissions off his back.
The fighters are tangled up in the ropes here. We might need a restart if the fighters can't break free themselves.

The fighters are working up against the ropes. Williams manages to wriggle his way back to his feet, so the fighters are now clinched against the ropes.
Ray takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.

Williams manages to pull guard.
Ray tries to stand but Williams is controlling from the bottom.
Williams looking to control the pace of the fight rather than finish it.

Ray wants to control from the top but Williams keeps moving.

Williams seems keen to control rather than go for a submission, at least for now.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity.
Good leg kick by Williams there. It's the ones that make that thud noise that hurt and that was an almighty thud.

Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Williams misses with a jab and misses with a cross straight after too.
Ray now looks to counter with a shot at the body.

Timothy Ray has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Johnny Williams is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.

Well Williams has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
