Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Jesse Mathis (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Anthony Shinault (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Jesse Mathis!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Anthony Shinault!
The judges for this bout are Sosuke Kotani, Shigeki Sano and Shigeki Fujiwara.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Mathis feints and as Shinault raises his hands in defense, Mathis changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard.
Mathis might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.

Mathis has gone for a leg lock! Shinault slips out almost immediately though and dives into Mathis's guard.

Mathis looking for submissions off his back, moving his hips, looking for an opening.
Shinault slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.
Mathis could do with losing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Shinault stands up over Mathis, holding his feet. He dives back in and lands a decent shot to the head.

Mathis has a closed guard, preventing anything of note from happening. Perhaps he's looking to stall.

Shinault stands and steps away. Mathis gets to his feet too and we're back to the striking game.

Shinault postures up in Mathis's guard and throws a big left but Mathis blocks it.
Shinault sneaks a leg through and gets to half guard. That was like a knife through butter how easily he passed Mathis's guard.
Mathis is looking for a sweep. Shinault is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Shinault is looking to advance position but Mathis won't allow it.
Shinault thows a wild elbow that connects with the canvas.
Mathis is not content to let Shinault control the position.
Mathis won't allow Shinault to pass to mount.
Mathis desperately trying to maintain half guard.
Shinault is just sitting in half guard, waiting for something to happen.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.

Shinault drives through and clinches with Mathis against the cage.
Mathis gets an overhook and lands an elbow to the side of the head.

Shinault pulls guard successfully.
Shinault is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.

The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
Shinault is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.

Mathis drops back looking for a heel hook - he quickly realises he's not going to get it but Shinault manages to dive on top of him before he can escape and now Mathis has Shinault in his guard.

Shinault wants to control from the top but Mathis keeps moving.

Shinault looking to shoot here. He's gone for it and he's landed a takedown into side control! Oh, that's bad for Mathis!
The ground and pound from Shinault seems to be hitting the mat more than his opponent.
Shinault remains in side control and seems content to stay there. It's a versatile position from which he can work both strikes and submissions, whilst maintaining that control, so maybe he'll sit here for a while.
Mathis sneaks back into half guard.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Shinault is keen to just control but Mathis is a slippery customer.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.

Mathis looking for submissions from the bottom but instead Shinault passes into half guard.

It looks like Jesse Mathis has been cut.

Shinault bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control.
Shinault is looking to take a break and control but Mathis is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
Mathis is trying to control Shinault's posture but Shinault avoids it.

Anthony Shinault has got the better of the ground game so far.

Shinault in half guard on the top. He's looking for a kimura... He's got it locked and he's managed to free his trapped foot. Mathis tries to escape but it's on too tight and he has to tap! Great BJJ skills there from Shinault!
