Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Gabriel Vera (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Dennis Jones Jr (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Chooooooooon! I think Vera might be my favorite fighter, now he's come out to Pendulum - Tarantula. I'm sure you'll be fascinated to know that I was talking to some pointless Z list celebrity before the fight and he thought that Dennis Jones Jr was going to win. Let's see if he was right.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
4 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Gabriel Vera! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
2 - 2 - 0, fighting out of New York, Dennis Jones Jr! The judges for this bout are Anthony Taglia, Russell Pearce and Columbo Gatti.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Jones Jr throws a body punch but Vera moves out of range. Jones Jr throws an uppercut from half a mile away. Vera sees it coming and avoids it easily. A looping hook to the body misses from Jones Jr. Vera does a little dance to reset his feet. Vera checks the leg kick nicely there.
Vera throws a jab but it's blocked by Jones Jr. Vera has been talking about how he's improved his wrestling in the run up to the fight so let's see if that's enough to sway the balance. Jones Jr works the jab nicely. Vera fails miserably with a takedown attempt. Nice uppercut lands for Jones Jr. That snapped Vera's head back.
Vera scores a trip takedown into side control. Nice. Jones Jr is looking to regain half guard here but Vera keeps moving and retains side control. Jones Jr keeps trying to improve his position. Vera thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead. Jones Jr is trying to get back to half guard.
That's one minute gone in the round. Jones Jr manages to work his way to half guard, despite Vera's best efforts. Jones Jr is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though. Vera thows a huge punch but Jones Jr dodges it nicely.
Vera lands a big shot. The thud that echoes around the arena is like music to the fans' ears. Vera sitting in half guard, looking to land shots. Jones Jr defending well though. Jones Jr tries to roll over but Vera keeps him under control. Jones Jr looking for submissions from an awkward position here. The two fighters exchange a few words. I couldn't hear what they were saying but maybe it's more fun if you make it up yourself. Vera connects with a nice short shot to Jones Jr's temple. Jones Jr tries to roll over but Vera keeps him under control. Vera wants to pass the guard but Jones Jr is defending well. Vera slips a nice elbow through Jones Jr's hands, connecting with Jones Jr's forehead.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Jones Jr is pressing down on Vera's left leg trying to get back to full guard. He's managed it. Vera sitting in guard, not really doing much. Vera trying to control but Jones Jr is working from the bottom. Vera with a couple of shots to the head there. Not particularly brutal. Vera preventing the sweep. Vera postures up and lands some nice ground and pound. Jones Jr is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Vera taking some punishment here, with Jones Jr in his half guard. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Vera is holding on to half guard well. Jones Jr sitting in half guard, looking to land shots. Vera defending well though. Jones Jr is thwarting Vera's attempts to control the position.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Vera wants to improve his position but Jones Jr is controlling well.

Jones Jr frees up his trapped foot and advances to mount. Vera bucks up and manages to get a nice reversal! He's in guard on the top - nicely done! Jones Jr can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Vera controls the pace. Vera preventing the sweep. Vera pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Jones Jr is keeping the position for now. Vera controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Vera trying to control but Jones Jr is working from the bottom. Vera stands up over Jones Jr, holding his feet. He dives back in and lands a decent shot to the head. Jones Jr is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive. Vera wants to pass the guard but Jones Jr is keeping the position. Vera postures up and lands a big shot to Jones Jr's brow. Jones Jr throwing his legs up looking for a triangle.
Vera with a flurry of punches that miss. Vera is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control. Vera passes easily into side control. Nice work. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Gabriel Vera dominated that round. That's time! Vera's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight.
Jones Jr throws the left hand but Vera avoids the punch easily. Nice defenses there by Vera. A telegraphed takedown attempt from Vera is defended easily by Jones Jr. Jones Jr closes the distance and gets a trip takedown into side control. Vera quickly recovers to half guard. The referee walks around the fighters to get a better view of the action. Jones Jr lands a nice short elbow. Jones Jr content to sit in half guard and control for a moment. Vera is looking to control Jones Jr's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Vera avoid being mounted? We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Ground and pound from Jones Jr. Gabriel Vera overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.

Jones Jr got a little sloppy there for a moment and Vera has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Jones Jr has managed to get both his arms back between Vera's legs - danger averted. Jones Jr landing some decent shots from guard. Jones Jr wants to pass the guard but Vera is keeping the position. Vera had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Jones Jr defends it easily. Vera is trying to control the position from the bottom.

That's two minutes gone in the round. Vera is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive. Vera seems keen to control rather than go for a submission, at least for now. Vera keeping full guard, as Jones Jr tries to pass. A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Jones Jr accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand. Vera has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Jones Jr can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself. Jones Jr keeps in close for a moment and lands a decent shot to the side of Vera's head. Vera pushes a forearm under Jones Jr's chin to create some space. He's escaped his hips and pivoted quickly for an armbar! Can he extend the arm? Yes, Jones Jr is tapping out! Damn, that was fast!
