PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Max Kirillov (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Quill Styles (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). I'm sure you'll be fascinated to know that I was talking to some pointless Z list celebrity before the fight and he thought that Quill Styles was going to win. Let's see if he was right.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 7 - 3 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Max Kirillov!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 8 - 8 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Quill Styles!
The judges for this bout are Winston Alpacca, Peter Branson and Sandra Marshall.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Styles misses with a jab, cross combination.
Kirillov walks into a stiff left hand from Styles.
Styles misses with a looping right.
Kirillov changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Styles tries to avoid it but Kirillov manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Styles to the ground. Styles escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
Quill Styles seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Kirillov uses some good footwork to avoid the body shot by Styles.

Kirillov feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.
Kirillov has improved his flexibility recently so we will have to see if he can use that to his advantage.
Kirillov seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
A looping hook to the body misses from Kirillov. Styles does a little dance to reset his feet.
Styles throws a right and a left that both miss.
Kirillov jabbing away but nothing is landing.
Kirillov shoots in for a takedown but Styles shows good takedown defense.
Styles throws a body punch but Kirillov moves out of range.
Kirillov attempts a counter takedown but Styles avoids it well and moves away.
Styles stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Styles wants it to stay on the feet.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Max Kirillov. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Styles moving in and out of range nicely, whilst landing the scoring shot.
Styles looks to score with a jab to the body but Kirillov is just out of range.

Kirillov goes for a double leg but Styles avoids the attempt and the two fighters end up clinched against the cage as Styles continues to drive forward.
Styles throws a looping overhand right but Kirillov ducks down to avoid it.
Kirillov appears to be looking for a counter takedown.
Styles throws a hook to the side of Kirillov's head but Kirillov sees it coming and ducks under it beautifully.
Styles fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Kirillov manages to avoid it.

That's three minutes gone in the round.

Kirillov shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Let's see what he's got on the mat.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Kirillov trying to control but Styles is working from the bottom.
Styles wants to stand but Kirillov is controlling the position.
Styles wants to get back to his feet but he's too absorbed in his own little project and Kirillov manages to pass to side control.
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Styles can do anything to dispel that myth.

Kirillov is looking for a kimura but Styles is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for Kirillov to get the leverage.
Styles wants to get back to his feet.
Styles really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Kirillov. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

Styles tries to kick Kirillov off but Kirillov keeps his base steady and stays in half guard.

Kirillov is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Styles defends it well.
The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
Styles is trying to get back to full guard.

Kirillov is working for a submission of some sort.
Kirillov works his way into full mount!
Styles keeping his composure momentarily, calmly looking to get back to half guard.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Both fighters have adopted an aggressive gameplan on the ground!

Kirillov is thinking about an arm triangle here, looking to tighten it up before moving to side control. Styles can see it coming though and defends well with a couple of strikes to the head and some good arm positioning.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Max Kirillov will probably get the nod.
That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.


Kirillov shoots in looking for a takedown but Styles manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Kirillov's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away.
Styles swings away with a counter right hand but no contact made.
Styles loads up on a big right hand but Kirillov slips the punch.

Kirillov tucks in and makes sure he doesn't lose the dominant position.

Kirillov with some aggressive grappling here. He's looking for submissions here, rather than waiting for the opportunity to counter.

Kirillov jumps to side control looking for an arm triangle but Styles manages to avoid the submission attempt.

Kirillov is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Styles knows the correct defense though, so he's OK.
Kirillov prevents Styles from escaping the position.

Kirillov has hold of Styles's arm here. He's working for an Americana. It looks like he might have it! Styles tries to escape but he's just digging himself in deeper - Kirillov cranks the arm and Styles screams in pain! The ref makes a decision and ends the fight before the tap - no complains from Styles, who is just happy to have his arm attached to his body.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:59 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Americana). Max Kirillov!
