Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
6 - 0 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Zsiga Venczel! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
8 - 5 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Antero Teeri! The judges for this bout are Michael Johnstone, David Hoff and Dirk Anderson.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! A telegraphed takedown attempt from Venczel is defended easily by Teeri. Teeri gets a clinch. Teeri lands a nice elbow from the clinch.
It looks like Zsiga Venczel has been cut. Teeri is stalling here.
Teeri looks more muscular than last time we saw him. He must have been on the weights. Teeri leaning his opponent against the cage. Venczel drops down for a takedown but doesn't get it.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Teeri lands a damaging elbow. Venczel blocks the elbow strike.
Teeri lands an elbow inside. Teeri lands a nice elbow from the clinch.
Zsiga Venczel's cut is getting worse.
That's one minute gone in the round. Nice elbow from Teeri. Teeri prevents a takedown attempt there.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Zsiga Venczel. That's going to take a lot out of him. Teeri stalls. The two fighters are working to gain dominance in the clinch. The pace slowing considerably in the clinch, as Teeri takes a break from that fighting nonsense to think about the finer things in life. Venczel takes an elbow to the forehead.
Zsiga Venczel's cut is bleeding quite badly. He's got to try and protect it. Teeri taking a break, stalling in the clinch.
Venczel blocks an elbow strike. Teeri will no doubt start fighting again in a minute but for now he's just having a little rest, leaning Venczel up against the cage. The ref breaks the fighters up, due to lack of action by Antero Teeri. Teeri fakes a couple of low kicks, before throwing one on the third attempt. It connects and Venczel has to reset his feet before getting ready to engage. Teeri is looking to slow Venczel down with leg kicks. Teeri closes the distance and presses his opponent up against the cage.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Teeri throws a nice elbow but it doesn't land.
Venczel has clasped his hands together around Teeri's back... aaand, he's got a takedown into side control. Nicely done. The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here. Venczel looking to punish the body of his opponent here but Teeri is avoiding damage well.
Venczel has an Americana. Teeri didn't react quickly enough there and he's in big trouble now! He tries to squirm out but is forced to tap! Venczel is delighted and gyrates in front of the ring girls. They seem to like the attention - it'll be interesting to see if Venczel hooks up with any of them at the after show party.
Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:33 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Americana). Zsiga Venczel! An out of breath Zsiga Venczel thanked his loyal fans in his post fight interview, giving them credit for his success over the course of his career.
