PBP Commentary |
Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Bob Roberts (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Fernando Diaz (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Diaz has chosen Boombastic (Mr Lover Lover) by Shaggy as his entrance music, which hasn't gone down very well with the crowd. I'm sure you'll be fascinated to know that I was talking to some pointless Z list celebrity before the fight and he thought that Fernando Diaz was going to win. Let's see if he was right.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Roberts misses with a wild combination.
Roberts seems to be moving with more speed, compared to his last bout. He must have been working on that in the gym. Roberts throws a body kick that sends a sickening thudding noise reverberating around the arena. Diaz shoots in but doesn't get the takedown and Roberts cracks him with a counter punch right on the button. No joy there for Roberts, who threw a few shots but didn't land.
Diaz tries a counter takedown but it's more of a dummy move, and he uses it to push himself away. Bob Roberts seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Roberts throws a body kick but he was well out of range there. A swing and a miss from Diaz. Roberts wants to slow Diaz down by chopping away at his legs.
That's one minute gone in the round. Diaz walks straight into an uppercut. Luckily it didn't land flush. Diaz looks to land a right hand but Roberts moved out of range. Diaz scores a trip takedown into side control. Nice. Roberts wants to escape from the position here - easier said than done! Roberts gives up the full mount - oops, sloppy defensive grappling there! Roberts is looking to get to half guard. Diaz is thinking about an arm triangle here, looking to tighten it up before moving to side control. Roberts can see it coming though and defends well with a couple of strikes to the head and some good arm positioning.
Roberts really trying hard to get back to half guard here.
Diaz is dominating on the ground here - he's now on his opponent's back, looking to sink in the hooks. Roberts is in real trouble.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Diaz has his arm under Roberts's chin here. Game over son! Diaz squeezes tightly and Roberts is forced to tap out!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:23 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (RNC). Fernando Diaz! Fernando Diaz decided to hype himself up post fight. It was going well but he went on about it a bit too long and the crowd turned on him a little.
