Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
24 - 14 - 2, fighting out of Las Vegas, Jon Paul Fish! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
38 - 11 - 1, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Ricardo Gracie! The judges for this bout are Cecil Peabody, Frank Dennis and George Francis.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Gracie slips under a jab from Fish. Fish looking to take his opponent's legs away with the low kicks.
Fish throws a hard body shot but it just misses.
Fish leaves Gracie with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt. Gracie swats away the attempt to clinch by Fish. Gracie dodges the punch combination from Fish.
Fish keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl. Gracie looks for a takedown. He's got it. We're now in half guard. Fish wants to stand back up but Gracie manages to pass into side control.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Fish tries to bench press Gracie off him but Gracie keeps the position.
That's one minute gone in the round. Gracie scoring with punches and elbows. Fish is not content to let Gracie control the position. Fish manages to get back to half guard. Gracie missing with the ground and pound from half guard. Gracie has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan. Gracie missing with some ground and pound from the half guard. Fish is trying to get back to full guard. Gracie looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks Fish with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position. Gracie is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Fish is just riding it out for now. Gracie eventually gives up the hold. Fish moves into full guard.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Fish has his foot on Gracie's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Gracie works his way back into a safe position though. Gracie postures up and lands some nice ground and pound. Fish will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions. Gracie won't allow Fish to sweep him here. Gracie with a flurry of punches that miss. Gracie looking to sit in guard and control but Fish gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.
The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily. Fish scoring with some ground and pound.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Fish wants to control from the top but Gracie keeps moving. Fish is looking to work some ground and pound but Gracie has wrist control. Fish looking to sit in guard and control but Gracie gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top. Gracie postures up and lands some nice ground and pound. Fish tries to roll over but Gracie keeps him under control. The referee walks around the fighters to get a better view of the action. Gracie lands a nice short elbow. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Fish is staying active underneath Gracie, who seems content to just control the action from this position. The crowd thankful this round is nearly over. Fish wants to control but Gracie is keeping busy.
Gracie lands a big shot. The thud that echoes around the arena is like music to the fans' ears. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
A close round but Ricardo Gracie will probably get the nod. OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.
Gracie drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Fish manages to work his way to half guard, despite Gracie's best efforts. Fish makes some distance and scrambles quickly back to his feet. Nice work! A momentary lapse in concentration from Fish enables Gracie to shoot in and score with a neat double leg. Fish manages to secure a closed guard as the fighters hit the mat. Gracie is working the ground and pound from guard. He might want to try advancing position though to get more of an impact. This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff! Fish keeping moving, preventing Gracie from controlling successfully. Fish is trying to keep Gracie in close.
Fish working the defensive guard well to avoid strikes from Gracie. Fish looking to hit a scissor sweep but Gracie is one step ahead there. Gracie is working Fish over from the guard. He should look to pass the guard and do a little more damage with these strikes.

Fish keeping full guard, as Gracie tries to pass. Gracie postures up and scores with a shot to the body and a follow up elbow to the head. Fish has his foot on Gracie's thigh. Gracie throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Fish works some decent striking defense from the bottom. Gracie content to strike from guard, landing some decent shots.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Gracie stopping the sweep attempt from Fish. Gracie advances position into side control! Gracie has been the more effective fighter overall so far. Fish is trying to work for a sweep but Gracie has mounted him! Gracie scores with a couple of good head shots there.

That's four minutes gone in the round. Fish sneaks a leg back under and regains half guard and is working straight away to try and get back to guard. He hasn't managed just yet though. Fish trying to hold on to Gracie's head to control him but Gracie postures up.
Fish gets full guard. Gracie trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet. Ricardo Gracie has got the better of the ground game so far. Fish is active off his back here, looking for submissions.

Ricardo Gracie showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards. The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action! This is the final round!

Gracie wants to control but instead he gets his guard passed and Fish is now in half guard. Gracie moves his hips nicely and gets into full guard. Fish preventing the sweep. Jon Paul Fish has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
That's two minutes gone in the round. Fish is pushing down on Gracie's leg trying to pass to half guard. Gracie is fighting to maintain full guard but Fish has managed to sneak the leg through. Fish thows a wild elbow that connects with the canvas. Gracie trying to get back to full guard but Fish takes advantage of the position and moves to full mount! The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Gracie gets back to half guard. Fish trying to control the action but Gracie is working from the bottom. Gracie is working for an escape here. He's hooked one of Fish's legs and he's managed to sneak out and take Fish's back! Fish looks to control his opponent's hands but he's not mananging it at the moment. Gracie somehow managing to miss with a strike from the back.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Fish trying to control the position but Gracie manages to sink in the hooks. Fish rolls and manages to get back to half guard. Nicely done.

Gracie is fighting it off but it's all too little too late - Fish pulls down on the head and he's put Gracie to sleep! This one is all over!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:57 of round 3, we have a winner by way of Submission (Triangle). Jon Paul Fish! A very excited looking Jon Paul Fish made sure he remembered to thank all the fans both in the arena and on the internet. He said all the coolest people spend all day on MMA websites, which got a big reaction. In defeat, Ricardo Gracie stepped up to the mic, saying 'Congratulations, you fought well!'.
