PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Jefferson Talbot (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Doyle Hawk (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Hawk has chosen American Encore as his entrance music. The crowd giving both fighters a great reception on their way into the arena. That's good to see.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Jefferson Talbot!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 8 - 7 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Doyle Hawk!
The judges for this bout are Tarja Halkonen, Johanna Lukiainen and Anni Minnemäki.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Talbot connects with a crisp jab.
Hawk avoids the head kick by Talbot.
A punch combination from Talbot misses.
And Hawk tries to counter it with a takedown but Talbot pushes his down on his head and steps out.
Talbot connects with a looping left hand that seems like it dazed Hawk momentarily.
Hawk checks a leg kick nicely.
Hawk tries a counter takedown but it's more of a dummy move, and he uses it to push himself away.
Talbot does a little shimmy and throws a leg kick. The leg kick missed by a considerable margin though, making him look a little bit silly for doing the shimmy.
Talbot misses with an uppercut

and Hawk counters with a shoot takedown. Talbot fights it but they end up in guard.

Hawk drops back looking for a leg! Talbot is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Talbot manages to kick Hawk off! Hawk jumps back into Talbot's guard.
Talbot has improved his flexibility recently so we will have to see if he can use that to his advantage.

Hawk thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Talbot is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far.
Talbot will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.

That's one minute gone in the round.

Hawk thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.

Hawk is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there.

Hawk drops back for a leg here. A bit of a high risk move... He's looking for a kneebar by the looks of things. Now both of them are looking for submissions. Hawk seems to have locked his on tight now - Talbot screams in pain and taps out furiously! It certainly was a high risk move but it's paid off for Hawk, as he picks up the win!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:37 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Kneebar). Doyle Hawk!
Doyle Hawk decided to go for the less than humble approach in his post fight interview, telling everyone how he is going to conquer the world. The crowd seemed to like it when really that sort of approach could have gone either way.
The defeated Jefferson Talbot had this to say: 'I got sloppy and he got lucky.'.
