PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Cane Corso (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Foo Fighter (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Cane Corso has the edge in experience - let's see if he can make that count tonight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Cane Corso!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Foo Fighter!
The judges for this bout are Eliza Hachem, Donatello Bradman and Skip Squint.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Fighter will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.

Fighter moves into range and clinches up with Corso.
Fighter gets double underhooks to prevent a takedown attempt from Corso.
Good anti-grappling being displayed by Fighter as Corso tries to tie him up.
Corso tries to pull guard but Fighter forces him back to his feet, against the cage.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Fighter stalls.
Corso tries to take the fight to the ground by pulling guard but can't manage it.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Cane Corso. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Corso blocks a knee to the body. He'll have a nicely bruised forearm in the morning.
Both guys are working to get underhooks.
Corso with the Thai clinch. He's looking to land a big knee but he's not managed it this time.

Corso tries to pull guard but can't drag his opponent to the mat. Fighter just stands there and leans against the cage.

Corso jumps guard and drags Fighter to the mat. He's obviously going to be looking for submissions off his back.
Fighter slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.

Corso working for a triangle but Fighter defends it easily.

Fighter is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there.
Fighter slows down the pace of the fight, as he sits in guard.

Corso working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Fighter doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Fighter manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.

Corso working for a triangle but Fighter defends it easily.

Corso escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Fighter gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.

Corso is looking for a triangle but Fighter pushes his legs off easily.
Corso is breathing heavily.
Fighter is just sitting in guard, looking to avoid any submissions.

Corso has his foot on Fighter's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Fighter works his way back into a safe position though.

Fighter controlling from the top position.

Corso is active off his back here, looking for submissions.
Corso can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Fighter controls the pace.
Fighter is looking to stand up but Corso won't let him.
Fighter is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.

My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.
Fighter trying to control but Corso is working from the bottom.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.
Fighter catches Corso with a nice straight right. He seems pissed - ooooh, it's on now! On like donkey kong!
Fighter looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily.
Foo Fighter seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Fighter closes the distance and clinches.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!

Corso breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.

Corso gets a takedown into half guard.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close round but Foo Fighter will probably get the nod.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!


Fighter fails to land with the punch combination there - jab, cross, hook, miss, miss, miss.
Corso tries to score a power double leg takedown but Fighter sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Corso somewhat.

Fighter drives through with a takedown into guard.
Fighter must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.

Corso working for submissions but it's allowed Fighter to get to half guard.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Corso is looking to sinch up a guillotine here but Fighter pulls his head out easily.

Fighter trying to control the pace.

Fighter is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Corso is just riding it out for now. Fighter eventually gives up the hold.

Fighter has been the more effective fighter overall so far.
Fighter seems to be taking a bit of a break to think of his next move. He lands a short punch in the meantime.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Fighter is figuring out what he wants to do next.

Corso looking for submissions off his back.
It looks like Fighter is going to stand back up.
Fighter is keeping good posture, landing some ground and pound.
The referee calls for the fighters to work.

Corso looking for submissions from an awkward position here.
Fighter slows the pace down in half guard.

Fighter prevents Corso from standing back up.
Corso wants to improve his position but Fighter is controlling well.
Fighter with a momentary lay and pray from half guard.
Corso makes his way to full guard. A much better position for Corso.
Fighter wants to pass the guard but Corso is keeping the position.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Corso has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Fighter can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.
Fighter advances position into side control!

Corso is trying to get back to half guard.
Fighter wants to stand but Corso has his arm trapped.
Fighter takes a little break here. Corso wants to take advantage but he is being controlled well.
Corso tries to slip a leg under to move to half guard but Fighter presses down on the leg and jumps into full mount!
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Fighter sitting in mount, just looking to control for the moment.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Foo Fighter showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action. This is the final round!


Fighter misses with a head kick.
Corso drops down looking for a counter takedown but Fighter sprawls and moves away.
Corso has been working on his balance at Beast Bar, so perhaps that has help him stuff some of the takedown attempts by Fighter.
Fighter is trying hard to land a takedown here. Corso sprawls well and keeps this one on the feet.
It looked like Corso was looking amped, ready to throw a big counter but didn't commit.
Corso tries to score a power double leg takedown but Fighter sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Corso somewhat.

Corso is trying to pull guard but Fighter turns him against the cage and we stay in the clinch.
Corso is working for takedown but Fighter is calmly controlling the position for now.

Fighter shoots in looking for a takedown but Corso manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Fighter's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away.

Corso shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in side control! That's better than Corso was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure!
Fighter can't do much from the bottom here.

Corso is trying to get an arm triangle but Fighter is defending well.
Foo Fighter has got the better of the ground game so far.
Corso wants to control but Fighter is keeping him busy.

Corso tries for a kimura but Fighter is defending well.

Corso goes for an armbar here - this could be all over! But no, Fighter has escaped beautifully and is now on top in side control! Oh, that's unlucky for Corso but great work by Fighter.
Corso seems a little lost for a moment, as Fighter dominates the positioning.
Let's hope that Fighter has the urge to step up the pace any second now because for the last 15 or 20 seconds he's just been holding on tight.
Corso tries to buck Fighter off but Fighter is having none of it.
Corso stops Fighter from passing to mount.

Corso manages to get back to half guard.
Fighter tries to pass to full mount but Corso defends it.

Corso looking for submissions off his back.
Fighter tries to stand but his hand is stuck under Corso.

Corso with the active half guard here but Fighter passes nicely into side control.
Corso is trying to improve his position.

We're seeing a lot of stalling here from Fighter.

Foo Fighter comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Fighter has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
