PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Nate Lawliet (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Ed Frettish (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Lawliet kept the crowd waiting but all that was forgotten when his ring entrance music started. The incomparable musical genius that is Stetsasonic - On Fire. Ed Frettish has the better chin. Will he look to stand and bang today?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 4 - 2 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Nate Lawliet!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 10 - 4 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Ed Frettish!
The judges for this bout are Daniel Franklin, Michael Johnstone and Bart Greer.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Lawliet getting the better of the striking in that exchange.
Lawliet throws a one two combo.
Lawliet throws a couple of head shots and lands with the final one - a decent hook, which struck Frettish on the side of the head.
Frettish fails with an attempt to clinch.
Lawliet misses with an uppercut.
Frettish looked like he wanted to counter with a punch but didn't throw it.
Frettish throws a hook but Lawliet avoids it easily.
Lawliet throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Frettish's waist but Frettish gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Lawliet off to one side.
Frettish walks into a left hand.
Nate Lawliet seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Lawliet lands a slapping body shot.
Lawliet darts in and out, connecting with a jab.
Lawliet scores to the head and body with a nice combination!

Lawliet takes a really solid shot there but just smiles back and shrugs his shoulders.


It looks like Nate Lawliet has been cut.
Lawliet throws a nice hook to the body that draws an oooh from the crowd.
A punch lands to the side of Frettish 's head but he takes it in his stride.

and Frettish connects with a straight left hand counter down the middle.

Lawliet looks to have improved his striking defense since last time we saw him fight.
Ed Frettish is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
Lawliet throws a combination. Frettish tries to block but a couple of punches get through.

The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!

Lawliet is using his height advantage well here, landing a good percentage of his punches.

and Frettish counters with a crisp one two that drops Lawliet! Frettish thinks about following him to the mat for a moment but instead steps back and waves Lawliet to his feet! Lawliet is in big trouble!
Oh Lawliet is still all over the place! His legs are completely gone! Will he be able to recover?!!
Lawliet rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Frettish moves out of range and avoids them all easily.
Lawliet pushes forward with a 1-2 combination that forces Frettish back to the cage. Lawliet follows up with a solid lead hook to the liver.
Lawliet seems to have got his legs back now.
Frettish looks more muscular than last time we saw him. He must have been on the weights.
Frettish drops his hands momentarily and Lawliet takes advantage with a crisp shot to the head.
Frettish paws at his opponent with the jab and then lunges in with a straight, right on the button.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Frettish dodges the punch combination from Lawliet.
A little jabbing left from Frettish on the counter but it doesn't find it's target.
Frettish throws a body punch but Lawliet moves out of range.

Lawliet throws a wild combination but nothing lands.
Lawliet throws an uppercut from half a mile away. Frettish sees it coming and avoids it easily.
No joy there for Lawliet, who threw a few shots but didn't land.
Frettish throws out a counter right but Lawliet avoids it with no problem.

Frettish has Lawliet up against the cage in a clinch.
Lawliet swings away with an uppercut that misses.

Lawliet's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.
Lawliet bobs and weaves and unloads with a good uppercut.
Lawliet throws a lazy uppercut
and Frettish counters with a straight punch to the midsection.
Lawliet is working the combinations to good effect here.

It looked like Lawliet wanted to counter with a hook but didn't fully commit.

It looked like Lawliet was trying to counter with a body shot coming off that last attack from Frettish.
Lawliet changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Frettish tries to avoid it but Lawliet manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Frettish to the ground. Frettish escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.

It seemed like Frettish was going to counter with the hook but didn't fully commit to it.

As Frettish looks to move away, Lawliet throws a big counter combo bu Frettish just gets out of the way.

and Frettish counters with a shot to the ribs. That looked like it hurt.
Frettish tries to bum rush Lawliet with a series of wild strikes but Lawliet uses good footwork to avoid the assault.

The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action. This is the final round!


Lawliet lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but Frettish circles away quickly and effectively.

Lawliet smiles there as he lands a nice right hand right on the button.

Frettish's hands are dropping dangerously low here and Lawliet connects clean with a right hook that sends him down to one knee! Frettish scrambles back to his feet.
Lawliet displays some good footwork, moving neatly out of range as Frettish throws out the jab.

Lawliet feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.

Frettish is the more experienced fighter here and he's going to need to draw on some of that experience if he's going to pull this one out the bag.

Frettish pulls Lawliet in close to his closed guard and prevents Lawliet from doing any damage or advancing position.
We may be looking at a referee standup if the pace doesn't pick up soon.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.

Frettish with poor footwork there. He got himself in a bit of a tangle, enabling Lawliet to score with a decent uppercut.
Nate Lawliet is winning the standup battle so far.
Frettish throws a series of punches but Lawliet moves out of range.
Frettish lands with a cross to side of his opponent's head.
Frettish throws an overhand right from the outside, which connects and sends Lawliet stumbling backwards into the cage! Lawliet bounces back off the cage towards Frettish, who cracks him with a two punch combination that drops him to his knees! Frettish lands two more shots before the referee has chance to intervene - what a finish! Frettish celebrates with his corner as the crowd cheer loudly.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:54 of round 3, we have a winner by way of TKO (Punches). Ed Frettish!
