Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Pinto Steve (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Martin McGuiness (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Pinto Steve!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Martin McGuiness!
The judges for this bout are Ian Loll, Gregory Folan and William Peck.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Steve drives through with a really nice takedown into side control.
McGuiness is trying to escape the position but Steve is controlling the position.
Steve's ground tactics aren't going to win him many fans. Let's hope he's got fireworks for us if he gets back to his feet because he's not doing much on the ground.
McGuiness sneaks a leg under to get back to half guard.

McGuiness looking for submissions off his back.
McGuiness trying to control from the bottom.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

McGuiness looking for submissions from an awkward position here.
McGuiness tries to kick Steve off but Steve keeps his base steady and stays in half guard.
Well, if Steve is going to just lie there, perhaps we should talk about what we're having for dinner tonight… I'm having a ham and pineapple pizza… Yum. Can't wait.
Further stalling from Steve.

That's one minute gone in the round.
McGuiness wants to get back to his feet.
McGuiness slips a foot under and gets full guard. Nice work.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Steve controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling.
Steve has controlled the position for a good 20 seconds, which will no doubt be starting to frustrate his opponent.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Steve tries to free his leg and advance position but McGuiness is retaining full guard.
If this pace continues, the referee will definitely step in and force a standup.

McGuiness looking for submissions from the bottom here. Moving his hips around, possibly looking for an armbar.
Steve stays in close to McGuiness's body and controls the position.

McGuiness is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Steve defends well.

McGuiness looking for submissions off his back, moving his hips, looking for an opening.

McGuiness had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Steve defends it easily.

McGuiness is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.
Steve looking to pass the guard.
Steve might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.
Steve is just sitting in guard, looking to avoid any submissions.

McGuiness looking for subs off his back but Steve has passed one foot through into half guard.
Steve trying to mount his opponent but McGuiness defends it.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
McGuiness makes his way to full guard. A much better position for McGuiness.
Steve controlling from the top position.
Steve pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. McGuiness is keeping the position for now.

McGuiness is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!

McGuiness looking for a guillotine here but Steve defends easily.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Martin McGuiness dominated that round.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.


McGuiness fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt.

Steve closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.
Steve controls the position.
McGuiness is pushing Steve's head away, looking to escape. Steve manages to hold on to the position though.
McGuiness is letting Steve control him for a moment.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
McGuiness tries to escape but Steve is in control.
Steve knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for McGuiness on the ground.

McGuiness trying to remain calm as Steve controls from the top position.

Steve lands a knee to the body and a forearm to the face.
Steve tries to advance to mount but can't.
McGuiness can't do much from the bottom here.
McGuiness being controlled for a moment.
McGuiness tries to get back to half guard but can't.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
McGuiness pushes Steve away and creates a bit of space to escape. He's almost out here... but no, Steve gets a good hold of his legs and remains firmly in side control.
Steve working away.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity.

Steve closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Steve lands in his opponent's guard.
Steve not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up.

Steve got a little sloppy there for a moment and McGuiness has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Steve has managed to get both his arms back between McGuiness's legs - danger averted.

McGuiness throws his legs up looking to secure a triangle. Oh, that looks pretty tight, I gotta say! Steve escapes and throws McGuiness's legs to the side, diving into side control!
McGuiness prevents Steve from improving position.

McGuiness can't do much from the bottom here.
A bit of a lull in the action. I'm sure it will pick up again soon... even if the ref has to physically pick them up and put them back on their feet.
Steve working away.
McGuiness is pushing Steve's head away, looking to escape. Steve manages to hold on to the position though.
McGuiness is letting Steve control him for a moment.
McGuiness tries to improve position but can't.
You can see the frustration on McGuiness's face as Steve controls the position.

Pinto Steve overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
McGuiness is looking for a sweep.
Steve controls the position.
Steve seems to have a rather negative gameplan on the ground. He seems keen to just score the takedown and hold down McGuiness for as long as he can get away with.
McGuiness is trying to control Steve's posture but Steve avoids it.
Steve in side control, just content to control the action for now.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Steve is trying hard to land a takedown here. McGuiness sprawls well and keeps this one on the feet.
Pinto Steve seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Steve closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming McGuiness to the mat! McGuiness manages to get full guard.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!

Steve is trying to tuck his arms in to keep them safe but McGuiness has managed to isolate one of them and has got a loose triangle. Steve is looking to defend but McGuiness has done well to lock his legs together - this could be big trouble for Steve! McGuiness pulls down on the head and a little smile comes across his face - he knows he's got it. Yep, Steve taps out and this one is all over!
