PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Rex Hudson (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and John Dermody (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Dermody has chosen Apollo 440 - Can't stop the rock as his entrance music. These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 2 - 0, fighting out of London, Rex Hudson!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 1 - 0, fighting out of London, John Dermody!
The judges for this bout are Donald Grub, James Atkins and Phil Schofield.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Hudson fails with an attempt to clinch.
Dermody looks really tired already! That doesn't bode well for a good, competitive fight!

Hudson forces Dermody back against the cage and clinches.
Hudson is trying to force a seperation but Dermody has the dominant position.

Hudson has picked Dermody up - he's going for a ride! Hudson dumps his opponent to the mat with a thud and settles into half guard.

Hudson is working for a submission of some sort.
Hudson wants to stand but Dermody has hold of a leg and an arm, so he's trapped for now.

That's one minute gone in the round.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Hudson is taking a breather. Dermody says something to him but it's hard to make out. Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something.

Hudson is trying a forearm choke… I don't think that's going to do much at this level of the game.

Hudson is working for a kimura here but Dermody manages to reverse the position and he's now in Hudson's guard.
Hudson wants to stand and escape but Dermody is having none of it.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.

Hudson could do with losing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely.
Dermody keeps trying to improve his position.
Dermody is pushing down on Hudson's leg trying to pass to half guard. Hudson is fighting to maintain full guard but Dermody has managed to sneak the leg through.
Hudson is looking to improve his position.
Dermody trying to mount his opponent but Hudson defends it.

The fighters are going at a pretty good pace and they're both starting to sweat now.
Hudson is defending against the submission attempts here by Dermody.
Dermody wants to free his trapped foot but Hudson is holding on for dear life with his legs.

Hudson is in trouble now - Dermody has advanced to mount!
Dermody pushing the pace here, looking to move to his opponents back and work for a finish.
Hudson tries to buck Dermody off but he can't manage it.
Dermody avoids the attempt from Hudson to control.
Hudson is trying to escape but when you're mounted that's not too easy.
Hudson has given up his back - I don’t know if this is a deliberate ploy to try and escape or if he is just struggling down there.
Dermody doesn't have the hooks in and Hudson manages to turn into his guard.
Hudson knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Dermody on the ground.

Dermody trying to keep a closed guard but Hudson is proving a slippery customer.
Hudson is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control.
Hudson has decided he wants to stand but the closed guard of Dermody is proving hard to escape from.
Hudson trying to control the position from guard on top but Dermody is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Hudson is just sitting in guard, looking to avoid any submissions.

A head kick misses from Hudson.
A countering left hand to the body from Dermody misses.
Hudson tries to land a front kick but Dermody steps back. That was a bit too telegraphed.

Dermody shoots in and gets a takedown into Hudson's guard.
Hudson looking to hit a scissor sweep but Dermody is one step ahead there.
Dermody postures up.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Dermody wants to pass the guard but Hudson is keeping the position.
Dermody is breathing heavily.
Hudson throws some sloppy strikes off his back.

Hudson wants to stand up but Dermody is controlling him.

Hudson has scooted to the edge of the canvas and used the cage to get back to his feet. Dermody has stuck on his opponent and is forcing him back against the cage.

Hudson gets the body lock takedown. After a quick scramble, Dermody regains guard.

Hudson slows down the pace of the fight, as he sits in guard.
Hudson tries to stand but Dermody is controlling from the bottom.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.

Hudson fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Dermody, pushing him back against the cage.

Hudson pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.

Hudson shoots in and gets a takedown into half guard. Hudson showed some decent athleticism there.

Hudson not doing much here.
It looks like Hudson is going to stand back up.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!

Rex Hudson dominated that second round.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action. So, we enter the final round. Let's see if either fighter can bring us a finish, or whether we're going to the judges scorecards.

Hudson wants to stand but Dermody is controlling his arm.

Dermody takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.

Hudson thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead.
Hudson tries to stand but Dermody is controlling his head.
The referee is pacing around the two fighters - he looks like he's thinking about a standup.

Hudson decides to stand back up.

My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.
Hudson fails in his attempt to clinch.
And an attempted straight right on the counter from Dermody! But no joy.

Dermody tries to sprawl but Hudson drives through with a takedown into half guard.

Hudson is looking for a kimura but he's never going to get it from there.

Hudson's ground tactics aren't going to win him many fans. Let's hope he's got fireworks for us if he gets back to his feet because he's not doing much on the ground.

Hudson seems to have lost interest with the ground game and is thinking about standing back up.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.

Hudson closes the distance and after a bit of a stuggle, scores a takedown into Dermody's guard.
Hudson is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.
Dermody has a closed guard, preventing Hudson from standing up.

And that's the end of the fight!
Rex Hudson showed his dominance in that final round.
Well Hudson has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
