Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Ranz Aero! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
3 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Aaron Mendez! The judges for this bout are Paul Gruel, Chris Saunders and Roger Salmon.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Aero fails in his attempt to clinch. Aero misses with a combination
and Mendez counters with a shoot takedown into half guard. Aero really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape. Aero is staying active underneath Mendez, who seems content to just control the action from this position. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Mendez might have to switch it up a bit here because his efforts to control Aero haven't been going to plan, at least at the current moment in time. Aero controlling the position well. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
That's one minute gone in the round. Mendez is keen to just control but Aero is a slippery customer. Aero has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Mendez is working away from the top position though. Mendez is looking for a kimura but Aero is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for Mendez to get the leverage. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Mendez is keen to just control but Aero is a slippery customer. Aero trying to control from the bottom.
Aero is defending against the submission attempts here by Mendez.
Mendez is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Aero defends it well.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Aero tries to get to full guard but Mendez has control of the leg. Mendez is looking for a kimura here.
Aero is looking for a sweep. Mendez is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Mendez wants to lay and pray for a moment but Aero keeps working. Mendez throwing punches and elbows but they're not doing any damage. Aero knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Mendez on the ground. Aero throws a strike from the bottom that misses.
Aero is looking to regain full guard. He's left an arm up in the air though and Mendez has latched onto it... Big trouble! Mendez pivots for an armbar - it's in tight and it Aero is tapping in no time flat! Great counter grappling there from Mendez!
