Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Cian Cartwright (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Lao Shin (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Shin is bouncing up and down as he enters the arena, backed by Shaolin Chamber of Death. Lao Shin is the more experienced fighter, so let's see if that makes a difference tonight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, in the welterweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
2 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Cian Cartwright! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
5 - 3 - 0, fighting out of London, Lao Shin! The judges for this bout are Igor Prikhodko, Valeri Chadov and Dmitry Maklakov.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Cartwright walks straight into a jab right on the nose. That one stung - he's blinking and trying to clear his head. Cartwright fails with a takedown attempt. Cartwright misses with a straight left. Shin throws a left and a right that both miss
and Cartwright counters with a takedown into side control. Cartwright grinds an elbow into Shin's temple. Shin manages to get one leg in to regain half guard. Shin is looking to sinch up a guillotine here but Cartwright pulls his head out easily. Cartwright lands strikes from half guard. Shin holds on for dear life, maintaining half guard for now. Cartwright throwing shots but Shin is blocking nicely. The two fighters exchange a few words. I couldn't hear what they were saying but maybe it's more fun if you make it up yourself. Cartwright connects with a nice short shot to Shin's temple. Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show! Cartwright lands a big shot. The thud that echoes around the arena is like music to the fans' ears. Cartwright thows a huge punch but Shin dodges it nicely.

Shin might have to switch it up a bit here because his efforts to control Cartwright haven't been going to plan, at least at the current moment in time. Cartwright is keen to just control but Shin is a slippery customer. Shin trying to control but Cartwright postures up.
Cartwright throwing shots but Shin is blocking nicely. Shin is trying to get back to full guard. The fighters are trapped in the ropes so we're going to have a reposition here. The ref calls for a break and repositions the fighters in the center of the ring. Shin is trying to maintain the position but Cartwright is very close to passing his half guard. That's two minutes gone in the round. There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action. Cartwright working some ground and pound from guard but it's not doing any damage. Cartwright definitely looks more muscular than last time we saw him fight. Our spies down at at Dr Hatsumi's Clinic inform us that Shin has really been working on his submissions in the buildup to this fight. Will it pay off?
That's three minutes gone in the round. Cartwright cracks Shin with a solid left hand. Shin controlling Cartwright's posture. Cartwright is working Shin over from the guard. He should look to pass the guard and do a little more damage with these strikes. Cartwright works over Shin with some ground and pound from guard. Cartwright postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect. Cartwright throwing shots from guard but he's hitting more mat than opponent. Cartwright throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Shin works some decent striking defense from the bottom. Shin wings a very wild body shot but it does the job and lands to the midsection. Cartwright looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily. Shin lands a slapping body shot.

Is there anything that Shin can do to turn this around? Cartwright scores with a couple of nice shots to the head there. The referee takes a look at Shin to see if he's OK. Cartwright cracks Shin with a big elbow. Cartwright misses with an attempted head punch from side control. The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so! Shin struggling a bit here.

Cartwright drops back looking for a heel hook - he quickly realises he's not going to get it but Shin manages to dive on top of him before he can escape and now Cartwright has Shin in his guard. Cartwright thows some rabbit punches from the bottom but they don't do any damage. Cartwright has his foot on Shin's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Shin works his way back into a safe position though. Cartwright is trying to control the position from the bottom.
Shin got a little sloppy there for a moment and Cartwright has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Shin has managed to get both his arms back between Cartwright's legs - danger averted. Shin trying to control but Cartwright is working from the bottom.

Shin trying to control the position from guard on top but Cartwright is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can. Shin is in a good position here but he's just trying to control... And he's not even managing to do that successfully. Cartwright throwing some rather feeble looking strikes off his back.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over. Shin trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet. Cartwright bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Shin's guard.

Cartwright throws a combination that misses and Shin counters nicely by changing levels and landing a hook to the body. Cartwright gets his takedown attempt stuffed easily and Shin counters with a lovely straight right hand! Shin fakes a head punch and goes low to the body. Nicely done. Cartwright walks straight into an uppercut. Luckily it didn't land flush. That kick from Shin tenderised Cartwright's leg. Cartwright is trying to keep his angry face on. Cartwright is looking for a takedown here. He's shot in and has managed to get it, finishing up in Shin's half guard. Cartwright scores with a couple of good hammerfists. Cartwright with the ground and pound but Shin uses the opportunity to regain guard. The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
