Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
12 - 6 - 0, fighting out of New York, Mikhail Golovkin! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
4 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Kern Dignity! The judges for this bout are Joseph Jones, Reed Andrews and Eddie Farnsworth.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Golovkin takes a body punch but keeps moving. Dignity lands a leg kick that knocks Golovkin off balance momentarily. Golovkin gets his takedown attempt stuffed easily and Dignity cracks him with a counter punch right on the button. Golovkin gets caught napping as Dignity dives in and scores a takedown. Golovkin manages to retain guard. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Golovkin looking for a guillotine here but Dignity defends easily.
Dignity got a little sloppy there for a moment and Golovkin has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Dignity has managed to get both his arms back between Golovkin's legs - danger averted. Dignity content to strike from guard, landing some decent shots. Dignity connects with a couple of short punches. Golovkin tries to land a sweep but no joy. Dignity working in close now, lands a nice elbow to the side of Golovkin's head. Both fighters have adopted an aggressive gameplan on the ground! Dignity scoring with punches to the head and body. The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so! Dignity makes a bit of distance and scores with some ground and pound, still in guard.
That's one minute gone in the round. Dignity throwing strikes but missing. Dignity pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Golovkin is keeping the position for now. Dignity with a flurry of punches that miss. Dignity stands up over Golovkin, holding his feet. He dives back in and lands a decent shot to the head. Golovkin has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Dignity can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself. Golovkin not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.
Dignity lands a couple of elbows. Dignity lands a couple of decent looking shots. Dignity is posturing up here but Golovkin has hold of an arm and he's gone for an armbar! Dignity tries to roll out but it's too tight and Dignity has to tap! Slick submission there by Golovkin!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:58 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Armbar). Mikhail Golovkin! A less than humble Mikhail Golovkin misjudged his post fight interview somewhat and came across a little too arrogant whilst trying to hype up his own abilities.
