PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Bruce Jackson (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Cowboy Cerrone (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Cowboy Cerrone will no doubt be trying to keep this one on the feet, where he has a distinct advantage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Bruce Jackson!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Cowboy Cerrone!
The judges for this bout are Bruno Hogan, Winston Howard and John Mangel.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Cerrone looks to score with a combo but nothing lands.
Cerrone fails to land with the punch combination there - jab, cross, hook, miss, miss, miss.
Cerrone circles away from the clinch attempt.
A combination from Cerrone does no damage.

Jackson has closed the distance and engaged Cerrone in a clinch.
Jackson is trying to work for a single leg takedown but Cerrone pulls him back up using the underhooks.
Cerrone tries to jump guard but he falls flat on his backside. Jackson smiles and moves away.

Jackson decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard.

Cerrone looking for submissions from an awkward position here.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Jackson is keen to just control but Cerrone is a slippery customer.

Jackson content to control rather than advance.
Jackson missing with the ground and pound from half guard.
Cerrone moves into full guard.
Jackson wants to control from the top but Cerrone keeps moving.
Jackson has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player.

Cerrone looking for submissions off his back, moving his hips, looking for an opening.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.

Jackson gets to his feet and steps away from his opponent.
Jackson closes this distance looking for a takedown but Cerrone circles away.
Cerrone blocks a head kick by Jackson.
Cerrone rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Jackson moves out of range and avoids them all easily.
Cerrone has his takedown stuffed

and Jackson counters with a nice double leg into half guard.
Cerrone moves his hips nicely and gets into full guard.
Jackson slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.

Jackson wants to control from the top but Cerrone keeps moving.

Jackson has gone for a leg lock! Cerrone slips out almost immediately though and dives into Jackson's guard.
Jackson is breathing heavily.
The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
Jackson is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
Jackson has Cerrone pulled in close to control his posture.

Cerrone has gone for a leg lock! Jackson slips out almost immediately though and dives into Cerrone's guard.

Cerrone working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Jackson doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Jackson manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Jackson closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming Cerrone to the mat! Cerrone manages to get full guard.
Jackson wants to control from the top but Cerrone keeps moving.

Jackson is holding a leg here, probably looking for an ankle lock - he drops back and goes for it! Cerrone is in trouble! Is it all over??? No! Cerrone has escaped and now he's on top!
Cerrone wants to pass the guard but Jackson is keeping the position.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Cerrone is persisting with the attempt to improve his position.
Jackson bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Cerrone's guard.

Jackson throws a big right hand that misses.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Jackson looking to sit in guard and control but Cerrone gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.
Jackson is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

Jackson uses the cage to get back to his feet.

Cerrone throws a body kick but he was well out of range there.
Cerrone throws a right and a left that Jackson avoids nicely.
Cerrone throws a wild combination but nothing lands.
The crowd cheers as Cerrone lands an impressive looking overhand right. Jackson doesn't seem phased though.
Cerrone throws a combination but comes up with nothing but fresh air.
Cerrone moves into range and throws a lovely three punch combination.
Cerrone looks to score with a combo but nothing lands.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.
Jackson tries to clinch up but Cerrone circles away and keeps his distance.
Jackson shoots for a double leg takedown but Cerrone sprawls well. He's pushed Jackson's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.
Cerrone keeps the fight on the outside.

Bruce Jackson seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Jackson gets his takedown attempt stuffed easily
and Jackson takes a counter punch right on the button for his troubles.


It looks like Bruce Jackson has been cut.
Cerrone cracks Jackson with a hook to the jaw. Both fighters smile at eachother and high-five before getting back down to business.
Cerrone looks to land a combination but Jackson avoids it well.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Cowboy Cerrone showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.

Well, the break between rounds is over. Let's get back to the scrappin! Ladies and gentlemen, this is the final round!


Some wild striking there from Cerrone.
Jackson clinches but Cerrone breaks the clinch
and Cerrone counters with a quick right hand to the jaw.
Cerrone swinging wilding here.
Cerrone scores with a one two! Jackson had his feet all tangled up there and couldn't avoid the strikes.
Jackson stalks Cerrone and leaps in with a furious combination of punches. Uppercuts and crosses smash into Cerrone's face. Cerrone staggers backwards, shaken.
A head kick by Jackson misses
and Cerrone counters with a good right hand that lands right on the jaw.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.
Cerrone closes the distance and clinches up with Jackson, looking for a takedown. Cerrone pushes Jackson against the cage but Jackson circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.

Jackson gets his takedown attempt stuffed easily
and Cerrone counters with a three punch combo that has Jackson backing up. Jackson nods at Cerrone to acknowledge the strikes.

and Jackson decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Cerrone's guard.

Jackson is holding a leg here, probably looking for an ankle lock - he drops back and goes for it! Cerrone is in trouble! Is it all over??? No! Cerrone has escaped and now he's on top!

Jackson wants to control the position but Cerrone says "no thanks buddy" and passes to half guard.
Jackson is trying to control but Cerrone passes into side control!

Cerrone tries for a kimura but Jackson is defending well.

Jackson is looking to reverse the position.
Jackson manages to work his way to half guard, despite Cerrone's best efforts.
Jackson wants to improve his position but Cerrone is controlling well.
Cerrone works his way into full mount!

Cerrone wants to finish this one by submission but Jackson is holding onto his waist, trying to prevent any attacks from Cerrone.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Jackson gets back to half guard.

Cerrone looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.

Jackson actively working from the bottom here.

And that's the end of the fight!
Cowboy Cerrone comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I think Cerrone has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
