PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Guido Gloom (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Wayne Conner (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). The crowd seem to be enjoying Conner's choice of entrance music: The Man Who Sold The World. Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 12 - 5 - 0, fighting out of London, Guido Gloom!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 8 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Wayne Conner!
The judges for this bout are Robert Douchet, Yves DeLean and Ian Loll.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Nice jab there from Conner.
A telegraphed right hand from Conner misses the target.
Conner has been spending a lot of time sparring his boxing in the run up to the fight, trying to sharpen up those hands and look for a knockout.
Gloom lands a nice leg kick that just misses Conner's sensitive parts.
Conner throws out a token jab with nothing on it.
Gloom throws a low kick, looking for Conner's leg but Conner calmly moves out of range.

Conner misses with an uppercut. Gloom saw that one coming.

and Gloom decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Conner's guard.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
Conner wants to control but Gloom is keeping busy and won't allow it.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity.

Gloom dances in quickly and lands a nice inside leg kick on Conner. That did some damage!

Gloom throws a couple of head shots and lands with the final one - a decent hook, which struck Conner on the side of the head.

Gloom shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. Conner defends it nicely.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Gloom doesn't react quick enough there as he takes a shot to the body.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.


Conner stuns Gloom with a nice body shot, before stepping back out of range.
Gloom tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.
Conner throws a body punch but Gloom moves out of range.
Conner throws a hook to the body but it doesn't connect.

and Gloom counters with a shoot takedown. Conner fights it but they end up in guard.
Conner has Gloom pulled in close to control his posture.
Gloom wants to pass the guard but Conner is keeping the position.
Gloom slips nicely into half guard.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Gloom is looking to take a break and control but Conner is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
Conner is in trouble now - Gloom has advanced to mount!

Conner avoids a series of strikes thrown by Gloom.
Conner is looking to improve his position but Gloom isn't that keen on the idea.
Conner wants to hold on but Gloom pushes him away.

Gloom jumps to the side looking to secure the arm triangle…. Ooooh, that looks tight… Conner is gargling but he's managed to escape! Nice work there by Conner and Gloom has given up the dominant position trying to land that submission.
Conner parries the strikes from Gloom easily there. Gloom is wary of posturing up too much because it might enable Conner to escape.
Gloom is looking to take a break and control but Conner is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.

Conner is looking for a sweep.

Gloom advances to full mount.
Gloom is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Conner can do to turn this around?
Gloom throwing sloppy strikes here. Perhaps if he tightened up his striking from such a dominant position, he'd be able to finish easier.

Gloom misses with a strike but at least he's keeping busy, looking to cause some damage - that will still help him when it comes to the judges scorecards.
Gloom throwing ground and pound but whilst doing so, he forgets to control position and Conner works his way back to half guard. Good composure under pressure.

Conner is staying active underneath Gloom, who seems content to just control the action from this position.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.

If this pace continues, the referee will definitely step in and force a standup.

It looks like Guido Gloom has been cut.
Gloom with a nice looking leg kick. You could hear that one land in a back row.
Gloom takes a shot to the eye socket. That's gotta hurt.

Guido Gloom showed his dominance in that final round.
Well I reckon that's a shut out for Gloom, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
