Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
12 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Mauricio Dela Cruz! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
41 - 23 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Jake Orange! The judges for this bout are Yukihiro Yamamoto, Kenichi Hosakawa and Ren Mimura.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Dela Cruz closes the distance and scores a nice trip takedown into half guard. Orange did well to prevent Dela Cruz getting side control. Orange tries to kick Dela Cruz off but Dela Cruz keeps his base steady and stays in half guard. Orange really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Dela Cruz. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out. Orange is using up a lot of energy trying to get back to his feet. Perhaps he should improve his position first. Orange is trying to defend against the ground and pound but Dela Cruz scores with a couple of nice shots.
It looks like Jake Orange has been cut. Orange has managed to escape just enough to sneak back to his feet but Dela Cruz is on him like a limpet, forcing Orange back against the cage. Dela Cruz drops down looking for an ankle pick but Orange pulls his leg out and moves away.
Orange stuffs the takedown attempt from Dela Cruz. Dela Cruz gets slowly back to his feet. Orange throws a feint and then finishes with a kick to the body. No luck for Dela Cruz with that takedown attempt. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Mauricio Dela Cruz. That's going to take a lot out of him. Dela Cruz looks for a takedown. He's got it. We're now in half guard. We've been hearing that Dela Cruz has been drilling a lot of ground and pound in training, so let's see if he get the finish. The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so! Dela Cruz is looking to stall here but Orange recovers full guard.
That's one minute gone in the round. Orange keeping full guard, as Dela Cruz tries to pass. Orange is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Dela Cruz is controlling him. Dela Cruz controls from within his opponent's guard. Orange avoiding any damage from the ground and pound.
That's two minutes gone in the round. The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so. Dela Cruz working some strikes from top position. Dela Cruz won't allow Orange to get back to his feet. Dela Cruz is in close to Orange's body, working some short punches and elbows. Dela Cruz sitting in guard here, content to control. Dela Cruz loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry. Dela Cruz won't allow Orange to get back to his feet. Dela Cruz throws a big elbow that misses. Dela Cruz throwing shots from guard but he's hitting more mat than opponent. A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Dela Cruz accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand. Dela Cruz throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Orange works some decent striking defense from the bottom.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Orange can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Dela Cruz controls the pace.
The referee decides to stand the fighters back up. Orange gets caught flat footed, as Dela Cruz shoots in with a quick takedown into guard. Dela Cruz is working Orange over from the guard. He should look to pass the guard and do a little more damage with these strikes. Dela Cruz works over Orange with some ground and pound from guard. Dela Cruz stops Orange from standing up. Dela Cruz throwing strikes from guard but Orange blocks nicely. Orange manages to escape and get back to his feet.
Dela Cruz closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming Orange to the mat! Orange manages to get full guard. Dela Cruz trying to control but Orange is working from the bottom.
That's four minutes gone in the round. The fighters are working up against the cage. Orange manages to wriggle his way back to his feet, so the fighters are now clinched against the cage. We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out! Dela Cruz tries to take the fight to the ground by pulling guard but can't manage it.
Dela Cruz has Orange pressed up against the cage and is working for takedown. Orange manages to improve position though and keeps the fight standing. Dela Cruz has double underhooks and is working for a body lock takedown. He's got it. The fighters land in half guard but Orange regains guard immediately. Orange scrambles and gets back to his feet.
Dela Cruz looking to score a takedown here. Orange is defending well but Dela Cruz drives through and ends up in Orange's guard. Orange wants to stand up but Dela Cruz is controlling him. Dela Cruz slips nicely into half guard. Orange kicks off Dela Cruz and gets to his feet. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
A close round but Jake Orange will probably get the nod. The cut man is working on Jake Orange's cut. That's time! Back to the action!
Orange takes a swing at Dela Cruz's ribcage but misses. Dela Cruz blocks a head kick by Orange.
Orange throws a head kick that looked like it stung.
Orange throws a body punch but Dela Cruz moves out of range. Dela Cruz shoots and misses and Orange counters with a good right hand that lands right on the jaw. Orange misses the shot to the body. Orange misses with a looping left. Orange tries a switch kick but it misses it's target. Dela Cruz shoots in looking for a single leg takedown. Orange is trying to defend but Dela Cruz finishes it well and ends up in half guard. Let's see if he can advance position further. Dela Cruz working some ground and pound from close in. He's looking to maintain this position and strike for a while by the looks of things... although he'll probably advance to full mount in a minute now I've said that. The referee calls for the fighters to work.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Dela Cruz slips a nice elbow through Orange's hands, connecting with Orange's forehead. The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here. Orange avoiding damage under a succession of punches from Dela Cruz. Orange looks like he's trying to stand up.
That's one minute gone in the round. Dela Cruz lands a big shot. The thud that echoes around the arena is like music to the fans' ears. Dela Cruz throwing shots but Orange is blocking nicely. Orange is trying to stand up here but Dela Cruz is controlling him well. Dela Cruz missing with some ground and pound from the half guard. Ground and pound from Dela Cruz. Dela Cruz is looking to take a break and control but Orange is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom. Orange is trying to stand back up but Dela Cruz is controlling him
Dela Cruz drops an elbow to the side of Orange's head.
Orange is rocked! Orange taking some punishment here, with Dela Cruz in his half guard. Orange is still in real trouble! Can Dela Cruz finish him? Dela Cruz lands a big elbow from half guard. That looks like it's hurt Orange quite badly. Orange pulls Dela Cruz in close trying to recover. Dela Cruz postures up and lands two really hard shots that put Orange on queer street! The ref takes a look and decides to call an end to the fight! Possibly an early stoppage but Orange doesn't seem to be complaining too much.
Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:58 of round 2, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Mauricio Dela Cruz! Mauricio Dela Cruz decided to thank the fans in attendance for making a great atmosphere.
