Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
4 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Roddy Banks! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of New York, Dan Howson! The judges for this bout are Richard Clark, Steven Brown and Colin Fotheringham.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Danga de danga de dang - Howson scores with a four punch combination!
It looks like Roddy Banks has been cut. Banks on the receiving end of a decent leg kick there by Howson. Howson obviously looking to wear him down.
Howson connects with a nice looking jab.
Banks takes a really solid shot there but just smiles back and shrugs his shoulders.
Howson throws a monster uppercut resembling something out of street fighter but it doesn't land. Banks was looking to counter that move with a punch but didn't quite pull the trigger. Banks has a takedown stuffed. Howson scores with a slapping inside leg kick. Howson scores with a jab to the jaw of his opponent. Banks throws an off balance right hand
and Howson counters with a good right hand that lands right on the jaw. Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show! A good leg kick by Howson. Roddy Banks seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Howson works Banks's body with a nice hook. A combination from Banks does no damage. Howson looks like he wants to counter punch here. Howson slips under a jab from Banks. Dan Howson is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
That's one minute gone in the round. Howson scores with a hook to the body. Banks takes a step back and tries to catch his breath. A punch combination from Howson misses. Banks has a takedown stuffed. Howson swings away with a counter right hand but no contact made. Banks swings wildly with a couple of big hooks
and Howson counters with a straight right hand. Howson moves out of range of the strikes. Banks with a lazy takedown attempt enabling Howson to counter with a crisp jab. Banks looks to have improved his striking defense since last time we saw him fight. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Roddy Banks. That's going to take a lot out of him. Banks lands a jab-cross combination. Banks tries for a takedown but Howson circles away easily enabling Howson to counter with a crisp jab. Banks throws a hard body shot but it just misses.
Banks looks to land a combination but Howson avoids it well. And an attempted straight right on the counter from Howson! But no joy. This has been an exciting period of action! Howson drops Banks with a hook right on the temple. He thinks about going to the ground but Banks looks back up at him and smiles so Howson waves him back to his feet - he obviously thinks he can knock him out after that shot landed.
Banks is rocked! Howson lunges in with a left hook that violently twists Banks head around and knocks him out cold! Howson hops onto the cage and yells out at the top of his lungs - Yeeeeeeeeaaaaaaaaah! They're showing the replay on the big screens now; that was nasty! I hope one of the photographers got a good shot of it.
