PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Jack Soto (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Yusup Komarev (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Komarev has chosen Eto kavkaz as his entrance music. Both fighters look fresh as a daisy as they make their way towards the cage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Yusup Komarev!
The judges for this bout are Igor Prikhodko, Sergei Dronov and Vladimir Khabensky.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Soto gets caught on his heels momentarily as he allows Komarev to score an easy takedown into full guard.

Komarev's corner are shouting for him to control the position and he seems happy to oblige.
Komarev wants to stand but Soto is controlling his posture from full guard.
Komarev is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control.

Soto has Komarev pressed up against the cage. He's trying to work for a single leg takedown. Soto pulls back from the cage and twists to the side, sending Komarev tumbling to the mat - Soto dives into Komarev's guard.

Let's hope that Komarev has the urge to step up the pace any second now because for the last 15 or 20 seconds he's just been holding on tight.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity.

Komarev fakes a strike and closes the distance, dragging Soto to the ground. Komarev is now in Soto's guard.
Komarev must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.

Komarev has Soto up against the cage in a clinch.

Yusup Komarev showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action. This is the final round!



Komarev fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Soto sprawls well initially but Komarev persists and gets the takedown into half guard.
Komarev throwing punches and elbows but they're not doing any damage.
Soto might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.
Soto controlling the position well.
Komarev content to control rather than advance.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Komarev wants to stand but Soto has hold of a leg and an arm, so he's trapped for now.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Still in half guard, Komarev seems content to control.

Komarev blocks the strikes from Soto.
Komarev slows the pace down in half guard.
We must be close to a standup if these guys don't pick up the pace.

Komarev has managed to pull guard. Let's see whether he can work an aggressive guard. It will also be interesting to see what tactics Soto uses from the top position.

Soto drops back looking for a leg! Komarev is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Komarev manages to kick Soto off! Soto jumps back into Komarev's guard.

Soto thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.
Komarev has his hands on Soto's head, controlling the position.

Komarev pulls Soto in close to prevent any damage.

Komarev drives through and clinches with Soto against the cage.

Soto turns his back and goes for a hip toss. It's a bit messy but it gets the job done and Soto manages to end up in side control.
Komarev tries to buck Soto off but Soto is having none of it.

Soto wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Komarev, who protects the arm well.
Komarev wants to control but Soto postures up.

That's four minutes gone in the round.

Soto working hard here to secure a kimura but he's not really in the right position for it.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.
Komarev is trying to get back to half guard.

Soto stands up and we're back to a striking position.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!

Komarev moves into the clinch.
Jack Soto has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Yusup Komarev is fighting for a decision - hopefully he's judged it right and he's actually winning the fight.
Soto using the Thai plumb to throw knees but Komarev has his back arched nicely, preventing the strike.

And that's the end of the fight!
Yusup Komarev comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Komarev has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.

Yusup Komarev was full of energy after the big win and talked about how he thinks he can do big things in this sport. The crowd were appreciative of his determination to succeed.
