Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Travis Schalk! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
1 - 7 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Gold T! The judges for this bout are Daniel Franklin, Wesley Smith and Robert Twigg.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Schalk throws a series of punches but T moves out of range. T fails with a takedown attempt. Schalk could do with loosing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely. T changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Schalk looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better. Schalk keeping his opponent close. Schalk is working hard to escape and get back to his feet. After a battle for position, T asserts his dominance and retains side control. Schalk sneaks a leg under to get back to half guard. Schalk trying to control but T postures up.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. T looking to pass the half guard. Not this time. Schalk is controlling T's trapped leg to prevent T from advancing to side control.
That's one minute gone in the round. T wants to control but Schalk is keeping him busy. Schalk trying to control here.
Schalk is refusing to be controlled, as T sits in half guard. T wants to get back to his feet.
T really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Schalk. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out. T looks gassed! Schalk looking to work for a kimura from the bottom.
Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up. T bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Schalk sneaks a leg under to get back to half guard. Schalk moves his hips nicely and gets into full guard. Schalk throws some sloppy strikes off his back.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Schalk has his foot on T's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. T works his way back into a safe position though. T trying to pass the guard. He's being very persistent here but Schalk manages to land a sweep and now he's on top! The fighters are going at a pretty good pace and they're both starting to sweat now. T working a defensive guard here.
T trying to punch from his back but it's not doing any damage. Schalk looking to control the position here, rather than advance.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Schalk has controlled the position for a good 20 seconds, which will no doubt be starting to frustrate his opponent. T wants to sweep here but Schalk controlling him for the moment. T tries to strike from the bottom.
That's four minutes gone in the round. The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena. Schalk stands up from T's guard - Schalk perhaps looking for a knockout. T gets caught flat footed, as Schalk shoots in with a quick takedown into guard. T looking to control.
T tries to strike from the bottom.
T is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive. Schalk advances position into side control! T is trying to get back to half guard. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Travis Schalk dominated that round. That's time! Schalk's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight.
T with a lazy takedown attempt and Schalk counters with a good low kick that T was not able to check. Schalk misses with a two punch combination.
T shoots and misses and Schalk counters with a driving takedown into guard. Nice work there by Schalk. T is looking to sweep but instead, Schalk has passed into half guard.
T is looking to control Schalk's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can T avoid being mounted? We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if T can do anything to dispel that myth. T tries to get to full guard but Schalk has control of the leg. Schalk is trying to control the action in half guard but T is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard. Schalk passes into side control, despite T's attempt to control the position.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here. Schalk cracks T with an elbow. That is naaassty.
That's one minute gone in the round. T is trying to improve his position. Schalk staying calm. T tries to get back to half guard but can't. Schalk passes to full mount! That's big trouble for T! T is trying desperately to improve position. T is in a horrible position here. Schalk smacks him with another shot as he tries to escape the position.
That's two minutes gone in the round. The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so. Schalk prevents T from getting the reversal. Schalk with the ground and pound from mount. T is squirming around, avoiding Schalk's attempts to control the action. Schalk wants to finish this one by submission but T is holding onto his waist, trying to prevent any attacks from Schalk. Schalk lands a nice shot to the head. T working to try and regain half guard.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Schalk looking to control but T is working nicely, looking to advance position himself. Schalk is thinking about an arm triangle here, looking to tighten it up before moving to side control. T can see it coming though and defends well with a couple of strikes to the head and some good arm positioning.
T is in all sorts of trouble here.
Schalk throws some shoulder strikes here and then postures up. Oh, he's gone for an armbar! T has his hands clasped together but Schalk breaks the hold and T is forced to tap! This one is aaaaaaaaaaall over! That was lightning fast by Schalk!
