Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Javier Fernandez! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Danny Green! The judges for this bout are Steve Erwin, Chris Dean and Bruno Hogan.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Fernandez looks to throw the jab but Green is out of range. Jab from Fernandez. Javier Fernandez seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Green tries to move into range but Fernandez moves to the side and lands with a nice right hand. Fernandez rushes in with a sloppy looking punch
and Green decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Fernandez's guard. Green is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two. Fernandez is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive. Green looking to control the position here, rather than advance. It looks like Green might be adopting somewhat of a lay and pray gameplan here, which I'm sure won't go down too well with the paying fans in attendance... Or the ring announcers come to think of it. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Fernandez had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Green defends it easily.
That's one minute gone in the round. Fernandez being controlled here, momentarily. Let's hope that Green has the urge to step up the pace any second now because for the last 15 or 20 seconds he's just been holding on tight. The referee is asking the fighters to pick up the pace.
That's two minutes gone in the round. A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd. Green postures up.
The referee decides to stand the fighters back up. Fernandez throws an uppercut from half a mile away. Green sees it coming and avoids it easily. Green is trying to avoid his opponent's strikes and get into the clinch. A looping hook to the body misses from Fernandez. Green does a little dance to reset his feet. Green tries a counter takedown but it's more of a dummy move, and he uses it to push himself away. Fernandez rushes in with a sloppy looking punch
and Green counters by moving into the clinch. Good anticipation by Green. Green is working for takedown but Fernandez is calmly controlling the position for now. Green goes for a takedown attempt but Fernandez pushes him away and we're back to fighting at a distance.

Fernandez is looking to work some ground and pound but Green has wrist control.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Fernandez tries to free his leg and advance position but Green is retaining full guard. Green is pulling down on Fernandez's head. It's preventing any offense from Fernandez, at least for the moment. The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily. Fernandez trying to control the position from guard on top but Green is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can. Green has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Fernandez can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself. Green keeping moving, preventing Fernandez from controlling successfully. We must be close to a standup if these guys don't pick up the pace. Fernandez is fighting to break Green's control of his arms but Green is doing a good job of controlling the position at the moment.
That's four minutes gone in the round. A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd. Fernandez throwing strikes but missing. Green keeping moving, preventing Fernandez from controlling successfully.
The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet. Fernandez dips down and scores with a jab to the body. Green steps to the side to avoid the strikes from Fernandez. Green gets cracked there but stands up to it.
Green ducks under an overhand right and circles away with a smile on his face. Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out! Green shoots in looking for a takedown but Fernandez manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Green's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away. Javier Fernandez has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Danny Green. Green uses some good footwork to avoid the body shot by Fernandez.
A telegraphed right hand from Fernandez misses the target. Green is definitely looking for the counter takedowns here. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Javier Fernandez dominated that round. The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action!
Green uses some good footwork to avoid the body shot by Fernandez.

and Green decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Fernandez's guard. Green slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up. Fernandez working for a triangle but Green defends it easily.

Fernandez pushes a forearm under Green's chin to create some space. He's escaped his hips and pivoted quickly for an armbar! Can he extend the arm? Yes, Green is tapping out! Damn, that was fast!
