PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Kazunori Ishii (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Diego Brandao (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Ishii comes to the cage accompanied by Imagine Dragons - Radioactive . Diego Brandao struggled to make weight for this fight. He only made it down to 156.6lbs at the first attempt and had to take the additional two hours to make the official bout weight. Let's see how much it's taken out of him. I can't wait for this one - let's get the fighter introductions out of the way and get this one started!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 20 - 13 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Kazunori Ishii!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 14 - 9 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Diego Brandao!
The judges for this bout are Eliza Hachem, Hugh Johnson and Skip Squint.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
The crowd cheers as Ishii lands an impressive looking overhand right. Brandao doesn't seem phased though.
Ishii connects with a lovely right hand, straight down the pipe.
Kazunori Ishii seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Brandao with poor footwork there. He got himself in a bit of a tangle, enabling Ishii to score with a decent uppercut.

Brandao shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in side control! That's better than Brandao was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure!
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Ishii tries to improve position but can't.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Ishii can't do much from the bottom here.
Ishii is looking for a sweep.
Brandao tries to land with some ground and pound but misses.

Brandao tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Brandao has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!

Ishii sneaks a leg under to get back to half guard.
Ishii tries to get to full guard but Brandao has control of the leg.
Ishii is looking to control Brandao's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Ishii avoid being mounted?
Brandao scores with a couple of good hammerfists.
Brandao not throwing his punches with enough precision this time.
Brandao is trying to control. Ishii wants to improve his position but can't escape this time.

Brandao is thwarting Ishii's attempts to control the position.
Brandao trying to mount his opponent but Ishii defends it.
Brandao not throwing his punches with enough precision this time.

Brandao throwing punches and elbows but they're not doing any damage.

Ishii tries to roll over but Brandao keeps him under control.
We've had a lack of effective grappling in the last minute or so, which could well see a referee standup.

Brandao is thinking about going for an arm triangle but he can't free his leg.
Ishii has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Brandao is working away from the top position though.

Ishii wants to improve his position but Brandao is controlling well.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.
Brandao tries to score a power double leg takedown but Ishii sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Brandao somewhat.
The fighters are starting to get sweaty, which will make takedowns a bit more tricky.
Ishii moves into range and lands a nice leg kick.
A looping hook to the body misses from Ishii. Brandao does a little dance to reset his feet.
And Brandao tries to counter it with a takedown but Ishii pushes his down on his head and steps out.
Ishii misses with a two punch combination.

Ishii connects with a leg kick. He turned his hip over nicely there.
Brandao ducks under an overhand right and circles away with a smile on his face.
Ishii throws a wild combination but nothing lands.
Ishii throws a hook to the side of Brandao's head but Brandao sees it coming and ducks under it beautifully.
And an attempted straight right on the counter from Brandao! But no joy.
Brandao takes one on the chin but seems OK.
Brandao closes the distance and takes a jab right on the nose as he does so.
Brandao shakes his hands off, looking to compose himself, but takes a jab to the jaw whilst he does it.

Brandao scores a trip takedown into side control. Nice.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Brandao in side control lands a decent elbow.
Brandao is putting a hurting on Ishii here, landing some big shots from side control.
Ishii avoids any damage from the ground and pound of Brandao.
Ishii is looking to reverse the position.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Kazunori Ishii dominated that round.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.


Ishii throws a looping overhand right but Brandao ducks down to avoid it.
We've been told by Ishii's head coaches at Sydney Shootfighting that he's been working on his takedown defense in preparation for this fight.
Ishii throws a leg kick but Brandao moved away.

Brandao closes the distance and scores a nice trip takedown into half guard. Ishii did well to prevent Brandao getting side control.

Brandao is looking for a kimura here.
Ishii moves his hips nicely and gets into full guard.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Ishii is trying to control the position from the bottom.
Brandao throws a strike but Ishii rolls with it and manages to sweep. Now he's in guard on top.

Ishii advances to half guard.
Brandao has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Ishii is working away from the top position though.
Brandao is trying to get back to full guard.
Ishii tries to pass the half guard into mount. Brandao knows what he's doing though and prevents the attempt.

Brandao looking for submissions from an awkward position here.
Ishii wants to lay and pray for a moment but Brandao keeps working.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
Brandao moves into full guard.
Ishii looking to control the position here, rather than advance.
Ishii looking to pass the guard.
Brandao keeping moving, preventing Ishii from controlling successfully.
It looks like the ref is thinking about a standup.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Brandao is trying to hold Ishii in close to prevent damage but Ishii has managed to pass into half guard.
Ishii controlling the action here.
Ishii throwing punches and elbows but they're not doing any damage.
Ishii keeping composed on the top, looking to control the action.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.
Brandao closes this distance looking for a takedown but Ishii circles away.

Good exchange - Brandao coming out on top.
Ishii throws a leg kick which misses Brandao's front leg but catches the back leg as Brandao tries to avoid it.
Horrible takedown attempt by Brandao or perhaps it was just good defense by Ishii, which made it look bad.
Kazunori Ishii has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Diego Brandao.
Ishii moving in and out of range nicely, whilst landing the scoring shot.
Ishii misses with a low kick.
Ishii fakes with a right hand and throws a good leg kick, right into the thigh. That had to hurt Brandao.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!

Ishii throws a hook but Brandao blocks it.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Brandao takes a really solid shot there but just smiles back and shrugs his shoulders.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Kazunori Ishii dominated that second round.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action! This is the final round!


Ishii lands a glancing blow to the side of Brandao's head.
Brandao looks up at the clock. Bad move! Ishii lands a right hand from hell, dropping Brandao. Ishii pounces and finishes the fight with a flurry of punches and elbows.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 0:11 of round 3, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Kazunori Ishii!
A very excited looking Kazunori Ishii made sure he remembered to thank all the fans both in the arena and on the internet. He said all the coolest people spend all day on MMA websites, which got a big reaction.
