The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Di Vaio tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but Shields was well out of range. Poor timing from Di Vaio.
Shields is definitely looking for the counter takedowns here.
Di Vaio misses with a body shot. Nice footwork from Shields.

Shields with the counter takedown but Di Vaio avoids it easily.
Di Vaio throws a hard body shot but it just misses.
Di Vaio fakes a strike and closes the distance, dragging Shields to the ground. Di Vaio is now in Shields's guard.

Di Vaio slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.

Shields has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Di Vaio can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.

Di Vaio postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.
Shields is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Di Vaio is controlling him.

Di Vaio looks to be in better condition than last time we saw him fight. Obviously he's been working hard on his cardio.
Shields looks to be working for a triangle here. Oh, it looks like he might have it! Di Vaio has picked Shields up and slammed him! Shields can't keep hold of the triangle and Di Vaio manages to pass to side control!

Shields is not content to let Di Vaio control the position.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Di Vaio shoots in and bounces Shields off the cage to secure the takedown into guard.
Di Vaio stands and throws Shields's legs to the side, diving into side control.
Di Vaio wants to control but Shields is keeping him busy.
Shields avoids any damage from the ground and pound of Di Vaio.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Shields is not content to let Di Vaio control the position.

Di Vaio is just content to waste time from the top position. Shields takes advantage of the situation and regains full guard.
