PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Rey Owens (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Dominic Lassiter (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Rey Owens!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Dominic Lassiter!
The judges for this bout are Jack Bonds, Timothy Bukovac and Frank Antenori.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Lassiter shoots in but no luck this time.

Lassiter moves into range and clinches up with Owens.
Lassiter is looking to control Owens's arms but Owens gets an underhook and turns him. Now Lassiter has his back to the cage.
Owens jumps guard but his hands slip and he falls flat on his back. Well, he's made himself look a right mug there, as Lassiter walks away with a smile on his face. Owens gets slowly back to his feet and shakes his head.
Lassiter shoots for a double leg takedown but Owens sprawls well. He's pushed Lassiter's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.
Lassiter dives in and grabs Owens's left leg, looking for a takedown. Owens pushes down on Lassiter's head and hops out.
Rey Owens has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Dominic Lassiter.
A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Lassiter.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Lassiter takes a swing at Owens's ribcage but misses.

Owens shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Lassiter's guard.
Owens is looking to work some ground and pound but Lassiter has wrist control.

Owens has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.

Owens working from the guard for now, landing some ground and pound.
Lassiter has momentary wrist control but Owens slips an elbow through the middle.
Lassiter pulls Owens in close to his closed guard and prevents Owens from doing any damage or advancing position.

Lassiter looking to control.
Owens is looking to work some ground and pound but Lassiter has wrist control.
Lassiter utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound.
Owens stands up over Lassiter, holding his feet. He dives back in and lands a decent shot to the head.
Owens working from the guard for now, landing some ground and pound.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Lassiter is trying to control the position but Owens postures up.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Owens controlling from the top position.
Owens really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.
Lassiter has control of Owens's left arm, preventing Owens from doing any damage.

Lassiter had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Owens defends it easily.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity.
Lassiter wants to clinch.

That's three minutes gone in the round.

Owens shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Lassiter's guard.

Lassiter wriggles free and stands up.
Owens fails to land the takedown.
Owens uses good head movement to avoid the hook from Lassiter.
Owens throws a quick counter head kick but Lassiter was just out of range.

A slapping body kick lands there for Lassiter.
Owens has his head snapped back a nice jab. A little nod from Owens there as he acknowledges the shot.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Lassiter wants to clinch.

Lassiter gets in close and instigates a clinch.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
The fighters are pressed against the cage, as the pace of the fight slows.
Owens is pressed up against the cage. Lassiter has hold of a leg and is looking to drag Owens down to the mat. Owens avoids the attempt though and has circled away. We're back to striking at a distance.
And that�s the end of the round � the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Rey Owens will probably get the nod.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.

Lassiter connects with a right hand. Owens shakes it off.

Owens drives through with a really nice takedown into side control.

Owens feints and as Lassiter raises his hands in defense, Owens changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard.

Lassiter is pulling down on Owens's head. It's preventing any offense from Owens, at least for the moment.
Owens connects with a couple of short punches.

Owens keeps in close for a moment and lands a decent shot to the side of Lassiter's head.
Lassiter wants to stand and escape but Owens is having none of it.
Owens postures up in Lassiter's guard and throws a big left but Lassiter blocks it.

Owens gets to his feet and steps away from his opponent.
Lassiter shoots for a takedown but Owens saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.
Owens went nuts there looking for a big combo counter but none of the flurry connected.
Lassiter tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion.
Rey Owens is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Horrible takedown attempt by Lassiter or perhaps it was just good defense by Owens, which made it look bad.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!

Lassiter tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Owens swivels and escapes.
Owens throws a big counter combination but Lassiter scrambles out of danger and avoids any damage.
Owens stuffs the takedown attempt from Lassiter. Lassiter gets slowly back to his feet.
As Lassiter looks to move away, Owens throws a big counter combo but Lassiter just gets out of the way.
Lassiter tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in to close the distance. Owens manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat.
Lassiter fails to land the takedown.
Owens closes this distance looking for a takedown but Lassiter circles away.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Lassiter shoots in looking for a takedown. Owens tries to sprawl out of it but Lassiter keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Owens manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.
Owens throws a counter high kick but Lassiter was just alert enough to avoid it.

Owens bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control.

Owens moves into the clinch.
And that�s the end of the round � the fighters go back to their corners.

Rey Owens dominated that second round.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action. This is the final round!


Lassiter is looking to clinch.
Lassiter closes the distance and clinches up with Owens, looking for a takedown. Lassiter pushes Owens against the cage but Owens circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.
As Lassiter looks to move away, Owens throws a big counter combo but Lassiter just gets out of the way.

Owens shoots in and scores a nice double leg takedown into half guard.
Lassiter pushes Owens off but Owens dives into side control.

Owens has had enough of the ground for now and decides to stand.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Lassiter wants to land a leg kick but Owens is out of range.
Lassiter just manages to avoid a counter high kick fromOwens.
Lassiter fails with a takedown attempt.
Lassiter takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.

Lassiter tries to clinch there but Owens circles away.
It looked like Owens was looking amped, ready to throw a big counter but didn't commit.
Lassiter swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.
Owens seem to be loading up, looking for a big counter.
Rey Owens is winning the standup battle so far.
Lassiter closes the distance looking to clinch

and Owens counters nicely by changing levels and landing a hook to the body.

Lassiter trying to stall but Owens improves his position.
Owens is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Lassiter can do to turn this around?

Lassiter tries to take the fight to the ground by pulling guard but can't manage it.

Lassiter won't allow Owens to get back to his feet.
Lassiter wants to get up but he can't break Owens's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here.

Owens controls Lassiter momentarily but Lassiter frees himself.

Owens looking for a guillotine here but Lassiter defends easily.

Owens is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Lassiter defends well.
Owens is trying to control the position but Lassiter postures up.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
Lassiter changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Owens tries to avoid it but Lassiter manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Owens to the ground. Owens escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
Lassiter misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out.

Owens shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Let's see what he's got on the mat.

Owens gets to his feet. Lassiter looking to butt scoot but the ref puts an end to that. On your feet son!
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!

Owens has managed to clinch.
Dominic Lassiter has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Rey Owens is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.

Owens has managed to pull guard. Let's see whether he can work an aggressive guard. It will also be interesting to see what tactics Lassiter uses from the top position.

Well Owens has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
