Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Bryan Gillen! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
4 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Trent Lane! The judges for this bout are Columbo Gatti, Dean Styles and Franklyn Lucas.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Gillen throws a series of punches but Lane moves out of range. Lane with the counter takedown but Gillen avoids it easily. Lane closes the distance and gets a trip takedown into side control. Gillen quickly recovers to half guard. Gillen pushes Lane off but Lane dives into side control.
Gillen being controlled for a moment. Gillen is trying to control Lane's posture but Lane avoids it. Gillen definitely looks more muscular than last time we saw him fight. Lane sitting in side control, looking to soften his opponent up with elbows and hammerfists but Gillen is avoiding damage well and looking to escape the position.
Lane tries to advance to mount but Gillen denies him. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Gillen is looking to reverse the position. Gillen on his back here. We all know that wrestlers don't like being on their back so let's see if Gillen tries to get out of the position. Gillen gives up the full mount - oops, sloppy defensive grappling there! Gillen is desperately trying to improve his position but Lane has a good base and remains in mount. Gillen is not a happy chappy… he wants out of there.
That's one minute gone in the round. Lane can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as Gillen is looking to escape. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Gillen is wriggling around trying to escape.
Gillen defends a decent attempt at a guillotine from Lane. Gillen is not a happy chappy… he wants out of there.
Lane has hold of an arm here, looking to extend it. He's committed to the armbar attempt here! Will he get it?! Yes! Gillen is forced to tap!
