PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Joshua Redding (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Mark Kennedy (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Redding comes into the arena with Alive blaring out of the sound system. The crowd seem to be enjoying Kennedy's choice of entrance music: Alter Bridge - The Damage Done. Joshua Redding could well score a knockout today. He has the power to get to Mark Kennedy's chin.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Joshua Redding!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Mark Kennedy!
The judges for this bout are Konstantin Menshow, Aleksandr Martynov and Illya Tyunina.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Redding displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Kennedy.
Redding seem to be loading up, looking for a big counter.
Kennedy fails with the takedown
and Redding counters with a shot to the ribs. That looked like it hurt.
Redding stuns Kennedy with a nice body shot, before stepping back out of range.
Redding looks to score with a combo but nothing lands.
No luck for Kennedy with that takedown attempt.
Redding throws a big counter combination but Kennedy scrambles out of danger and avoids any damage.
Joshua Redding has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Mark Kennedy.

Kennedy looking to shoot here. He's gone for it and he's landed a takedown into side control! Oh, that's bad for Redding!

Redding throws his opponent off and manages to get back to his feet! Nicely done!

Kennedy dives in for a single leg takedown but Redding sprawls and the fighters end up clinched against the cage.

and Redding connects with a straight left hand counter down the middle.

Kennedy is trying to pull guard but Redding has him pressed against the cage.
Kennedy can't find room to land a body shot as Redding controls the action.

Redding drops to a knee looking for a takedown but Kennedy gets the underhooks and prevents it.

Redding breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
Kennedy fails with the takedown.
Redding jabs Kennedy to the body, keeping him at a distance.
Redding looks to land a combination. Kennedy sees it coming but can only parry a couple of the shots.
Kennedy looks more muscular than last time we saw him. He must have been on the weights.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Redding tests Kennedy's chin there with a solid looking shot.

Kennedy walks into a straight right hand from Redding.

Redding misses with a wild combination.
Kennedy with the counter takedown but Redding avoids it easily.
Mark Kennedy seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Redding throws a one two combo.
Redding throws a series of strikes that have Kennedy backpedaling.
Both fighters circling a little - Redding finishes the exchange with a kick to the body.

Redding scores with a punch to the gut of his opponent.
Kennedy doesn't react quick enough there as he takes a shot to the body.

Redding closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard.
It looks like Redding is going to stand back up.
Redding controlling the action here.
Redding takes advantage of the dominant position to land a couple of big hammer fists.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.


Redding changes levels and scores with a jab to the body.
Joshua Redding is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Kennedy misses with a takedown attempt - Redding sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.
Redding half commits to a counter takedown before pushing away, out of range.

Kennedy scores with a nice takedown into half guard. Let's see what he's got on the ground.
Redding keeps control of the position for the meantime.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Redding has his foot on Kennedy's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Kennedy works his way back into a safe position though.
Redding is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Kennedy can do to turn this around?

Kennedy working in close now, lands a nice elbow to the side of Redding's head.
Redding is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Kennedy trying to control the position from guard on top but Redding is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Redding trying to keep a closed guard but Kennedy is proving a slippery customer.

Redding is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Kennedy defends well.

Kennedy throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Redding works some decent striking defense from the bottom.
Kennedy postures up in Redding's guard and throws a big left but Redding blocks it.

Kennedy stands up over his opponent, looking to dive in with a big punch. Here he comes, superman style! Oh, the punch misses and Redding has got him in a triangle choke for good measure! Oh no! Kennedy manages to get his head free but now Redding has transitioned to an armbar! Kennedy grimaces and is forced to tap! Beautiful Jiu Jitsu from Redding! I'd be surprised if that didn't end up as submission of the night!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:56 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Armbar). Joshua Redding!
A relieved looking Joshua Redding thanked the fans for their support and gave the usual line about them being amazing. They seemed to believe that he actually meant it.
