The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
A slow jab from Boycheck misses its intended target.
Fernandez fails with a takedown attempt.
Boycheck misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.
Boycheck leaves Fernandez with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.
Boycheck's coach down at St Petersburg MMA Gym was telling us pre-fight that they have been working on Boycheck's balance. Obviously they view that as a key factor in the outcome of this fight.
Fernandez goes for a double leg but Boycheck avoids the attempt and the two fighters end up clinched against the cage as Boycheck continues to drive forward.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Frank Fernandez. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Boycheck misses the shot to the body.
Fernandez attempts a counter takedown but Boycheck avoids it well and moves away.
Boycheck misses with a jab and misses with a cross straight after too.

and Fernandez counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground.
Boycheck is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.
Boycheck is working for submissions here. He's thrown up his legs looking for a triangle but Fernandez frees his head nicely. Oh but Boycheck has switched to an armbar! Fernandez is tapping furiously! Lovely submission there!
