Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 18 - 8 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Timur Rubin!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 11 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, John Paul Wani!
The judges for this bout are Colin Fotheringham, Phil Schofield and Daniel Bishop.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Wani misses with a straight left.
Rubin throws a jab when Wani was well out of range.
We've been hearing reports that Rubin has been drilling takedowns in recent sessions so let's see if that has an impact on the result of this fight.
Wani misses with a looping right.
Rubin feinted with a counter takedown.
Wani throws a looping overhand right but Rubin ducks down to avoid it.
A nice leg kick lands there from Wani.

Wani gets caught napping as Rubin dives in and scores a takedown. Wani manages to retain guard.
Rubin is standing up over Wani. Wani looks to escape but Rubin dives into side control.

Rubin is looking to take a break and control but Wani is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
Rubin misses with an attempted head punch from side control.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Rubin is moving around in side control but his primary objective seems to be to maintain the position.
Wani is trying to control Rubin's posture but Rubin avoids it.
Rubin looking to punish the body of his opponent here but Wani is avoiding damage well.
Rubin creates some space and throws a big elbow, but Wani sees it coming and moves his head just enough to avoid the strike.
Rubin cracks Wani with a big right hand but Wani just smiles back at him and invites him to have another go.
Wani felt the need to train up his defensive grappling in the buildup to the fight. Presumably he was expecting to be in a difficult position like this, so let's see if he can get out of it.
Rubin is working Wani over with some ground and pound from side control.

Wani is rocked!
Rubin lands a big left to the face of Wani, bouncing his head like a basketball. Another shot from Rubin and another - Wani is out! Rubin stands up and salutes his fans, who are going crazy in the stands.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:57 of round 1, we have a winner by way of KO (Strikes). Timur Rubin!
