Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
19 - 12 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Darren Myles! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
24 - 16 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Kshitij Singh Negi! The judges for this bout are Tiny Johnson, Alan Glass and Wesley Smith.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Myles misses with a takedown attempt and Singh Negi counters with a two punch combo. Myles fails with the takedown and Singh Negi counters with a one-two to the body. Singh Negi tries to close the distance and clinch but Myles swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away. Myles avoids the clinch attempt nicely.
Myles gets the takedown into side control. Myles prevents Singh Negi from escaping the position. We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Singh Negi can do anything to dispel that myth. Myles wants to control but Singh Negi is keeping him busy. Myles is trying to get an arm triangle but Singh Negi is defending well. This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff! Myles throwing shots but missing, from side control.
That's one minute gone in the round. Myles looking for an arm triangle but it's way too loose to do anything. Myles trying to control the position but Singh Negi is working away. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Myles is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Singh Negi is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now. Myles working the ground and pound but he's contacting the mat, not the fighter. Check out the look on Myles's face as he threw that strike - that's one determined fighter!
Myles is looking to take a break and control but Singh Negi is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom. Singh Negi avoids any damage from the ground and pound of Myles.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Myles controlling the position from side mount. Myles in side control lands a decent elbow. Myles trying to control the position but Singh Negi is working away. Myles working the ground and pound but Singh Negi is defending the strikes. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Myles is in a dominant position here, looking for a kimura. Singh Negi looks calm but he's in trouble here. Myles gets his leg over his opponent's head and yanks on the arm. Singh Negi is tapping like a morse code operator on the titanic! SOS! SOS! Myles lets go of the hold and Singh Negi can pop his arm back in it's socket.
Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:59 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Kimura). Darren Myles! Our winner, Darren Myles, made sure he spent some time buttering up the crowd during his post fight interview, which will no doubt bring him a few more fans.
