Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
1 - 2 - 0, fighting out of New York, Rupert Gardner! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of New York, Evan Jones! The judges for this bout are Columbo Gatti, Reed Andrews and Jonathan Paton.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Jones shoots and misses enabling Gardner to counter with a crisp jab. Gardner misses with a few strikes there.
Jones looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Gardner is fending him off so far but Jones persists. Nope, Gardner circles away and we're back to standing. Jones fails to land with a series of punches.
Gardner instigates a clinch. Gardner really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape. Rupert Gardner has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Evan Jones. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Gardner just leaning against Jones, taking a breather. Some stalling of biblical proportions here from Gardner. Gardner stalling the fight.
The ref breaks the fighters up, due to lack of action by Rupert Gardner. Jones has his takedown stuffed and Gardner counters with a quick right hand to the jaw.
That's one minute gone in the round. Jones misses with a head kick.
Jones shoots in but no luck this time. Jones shoots for a takedown but Gardner saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily. Jones just misses with a punch to the body.
Jones shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Gardner but Gardner pushes him off and we're back to square one. Jones looks winded! Gardner lands a really nice looking cross but Jones seems unphased.
Gardner swings for the body but Jones moves out of range.
Jones tries to score a power double leg takedown but Gardner sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Jones somewhat.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Gardner gets to the clinch - let's see what his plan is here. Gardner pulls guard successfully.
Gardner is pulling down on Jones's head. It's preventing any offense from Jones, at least for the moment. Gardner pushes Jones off and scrambles back to his feet.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Gardner closes the distance and clinches. Jones breaks the clinch.
A telegraphed takedown attempt from Jones is defended easily by Gardner. Gardner moves into the clinch successfully.

That's four minutes gone in the round. Jones being controlled against the cage. Gardner avoiding damage.
Gardner seems to have come into the fight with the intention of avoiding any damage in the clinch, rather than actually showing any aggression. The two fighters are working to gain dominance in the clinch. The crowd are getting pretty annoyed with Gardner for his constant stalling in the clinch and are voicing their displeasure. Gardner is stalling here. The referee will be looking to step in if he doesn't pick up the pace. The ref breaks the fighters up, due to lack of action by Rupert Gardner. Jones dodges the punch combination from Gardner.
Gardner has closed the distance and engaged Jones in a clinch.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over. Gardner slowing the pace effectively. The pace slowing considerably in the clinch, as Gardner takes a break from that fighting nonsense to think about the finer things in life. Jones has had enough of the clinch but Gardner keeps him there for the moment. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Rupert Gardner dominated that round. The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!
Jones misses with a takedown and Gardner counters by moving into the clinch. Good anticipation by Gardner. Jones can't break the clinch.

It will also be interesting to see what tactics Jones uses from the top position. Gardner bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Jones's guard. Jones being controlled here, momentarily. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Gardner postures up and lands some nice ground and pound. Jones wants to control the position but Gardner says "no thanks buddy" and passes to half guard.
That's one minute gone in the round. Gardner scoring with strikes to the body and head. Gardner will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions. Gardner seems to be taking a bit of a break to think of his next move. He lands a short punch in the meantime. Jones has hold of Gardner's hands but Gardner slips his arm to the side and lands an elbow. Gardner has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission. Jones is breathing heavily. Gardner is keeping good posture, landing some ground and pound. Gardner is thwarting Jones's attempts to control the position. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Gardner is looking for a kimura but he's never going to get it from there. Rupert Gardner overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far. Gardner lands with a punch from half guard.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Jones is trying to defend against the ground and pound but Gardner scores with a couple of nice shots. Jones throws a strike from the bottom but Gardner passes into side control!
Gardner has an Americana. Jones didn't react quickly enough there and he's in big trouble now! He tries to squirm out but is forced to tap! Gardner is delighted and gyrates in front of the ring girls. They seem to like the attention - it'll be interesting to see if Gardner hooks up with any of them at the after show party.
Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:38 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Americana). Rupert Gardner!
