Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Owen Clark! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Dom Pecayo! The judges for this bout are Darius Henderson, Chris Dean and Winston Howard.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Pecayo takes the fight into the clinch. Clark could do with losing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely. Clark jumps guard but Pecayo turns him against the cage and keeps the fight standing. Pecayo tries to stall but Clark uses the opportunity to gain a better position.
Pecayo wants a takedown but no success here.
Clark pulls guard. Clark can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Pecayo controls the pace. Pecayo postures up.
Clark keeping full guard, as Pecayo tries to pass. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Pecayo working some ground and pound from guard but it's not doing any damage. Pecayo trying to control but Clark is working from the bottom. Pecayo wants to pass the guard but Clark is keeping the position. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
That's one minute gone in the round. Clark wants to control here, rather than go for any submissions from the bottom. At least for now.
The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet. Clark moves into the clinch successfully.
Clark lands with a light punch inside. Clark has a couple of punches blocked by Pecayo.
Clark breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat. Pecayo takes the fight into the clinch. Clark breaks from the clinch.
Dom Pecayo seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Clark shoots in but no luck this time. Clark leaves Pecayo with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Pecayo drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Clark sneaks out the side door and pushes Pecayo away - he's back to his feet. The crowd show their appreciation for the escape. This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff! Pecayo takes the fight into the clinch. Clark lands a short shot on the inside that snaps the head of Pecayo backwards. Clark is trying to work out of this bad position, with his back against the cage. Clark is trying to push Pecayo away but Pecayo has him pressed against the cage, so he's going nowhere. Pecayo pushes Clark back against the cage and lands a hook to the side of the head. Pecayo lands an elbow just above Clark 's eye.
It looks like Owen Clark has been cut.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Clark tries a body shot but Pecayo blocks it.
Clark gets a trip takedown into half guard. Pecayo manages to create a bit of space in order to work his way back to his feet. Clark keeps hold of his opponent and drives him back against the cage. Clark tries to break the clinch but Pecayo is controlling the position. Pecayo blocks an uppercut.
Clark working some nice short punches in the clinch. Clark drops down looking for an ankle pick but Pecayo pulls his leg out and moves away.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Owen Clark. That's going to take a lot out of him. Clark is breathing heavily. Pecayo bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control. Clark sneaks out the side door and pushes Pecayo away - he's back to his feet. The crowd show their appreciation for the escape. The crowd are loving this. Great action here. Pecayo shoots for a takedown but Clark saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily. It looked like Clark was looking amped, ready to throw a big counter but didn't commit. Pecayo tries to drive through with a takedown attempt but Clark defends well and Pecayo ends up having to push Clark into the cage where they will battle it out in the clinch.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Pecayo shoots in for a double leg but Clark sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy. Clark was looking to counter that move with a punch but didn't quite pull the trigger. A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Pecayo. Pecayo throws a head kick that Clark semi-blocks.
Pecayo pushes Clark up against the cage in a clinch. Clark escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Pecayo fails with a takedown attempt from distance. Clark seem to be loading up, looking for a big counter. Pecayo clinches up against the cage. Clark can't break the clinch.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
That was a close round but I would say that Owen Clark will probably get the nod. The cut man is working on Owen Clark's cut. The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action!
Pecayo shoots for a takedown but Clark saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily. Pecayo closes the distance and clinches. Clark jumps guard and drags Pecayo to the mat. He's obviously going to be looking for submissions off his back. Clark working away from the bottom but not quite defensive enough there because Pecayo has passed into half guard!
Pecayo tries to pass the half guard into mount. Clark knows what he's doing though and prevents the attempt. Clark is looking to improve his position.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Clark trying to hold on to Pecayo's head to control him but Pecayo postures up.
Owen Clark overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
That's one minute gone in the round. Clark is refusing to be controlled, as Pecayo sits in half guard. Clark is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though. Pecayo landing with strikes to the body and head, softening up his opponent. Pecayo is working for submissions here but there's nothing on.
That's two minutes gone in the round. A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd. Clark is trying is best to control the position here. Pecayo is taking a breather. Clark says something to him but it's hard to make out. Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something. Clark wants to control but Pecayo is keeping busy.
We must be close to a standup if these guys don't pick up the pace. Clark is refusing to be controlled, as Pecayo sits in half guard.
The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity. Pecayo shoots in and scores a nice double leg takedown into half guard. Clark might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground. Clark wants to stand back up but Pecayo manages to pass into side control.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Pecayo tries to move into full mount but can't pass Clark's legs. Pecayo is looking to take a break and control but Clark is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom. Clark is looking for a sweep. Check out the look on Pecayo's face as he threw that strike - that's one determined fighter!
Clark tries to slip a leg under to move to half guard but Pecayo presses down on the leg and jumps into full mount!
That's four minutes gone in the round. The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena. Pecayo looking to control but Clark is working nicely, looking to advance position himself. Clark wants to try and get back to his feet. Pecayo get's back to his feet. Pecayo shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in side control! That's better than Pecayo was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure! Pecayo has an Americana. Clark didn't react quickly enough there and he's in big trouble now! He tries to squirm out but is forced to tap! Pecayo is delighted and gyrates in front of the ring girls. They seem to like the attention - it'll be interesting to see if Pecayo hooks up with any of them at the after show party.
