Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
21 - 11 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Frank Stevens! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
38 - 23 - 2, fighting out of Sydney, Jacob Obworth! The judges for this bout are Ben Hemmingworth, Winston Howard and Chris Dean.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Obworth swings and misses with a hook to the body.
Obworth jabbing away but nothing is landing. It appears Stevens was looking to counter with a kick there. Stevens has been talking about how he's improved his wrestling in the run up to the fight so let's see if that's enough to sway the balance. Obworth scores with a sloppy right hand. Stevens should have avoided that one. Obworth misses with an uppercut. Stevens saw that one coming. Stevens defends well against a solid takedown attempt from Obworth. Stevens closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Stevens lands in his opponent's guard. Stevens tries to free his leg and advance position but Obworth is retaining full guard. Obworth bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Stevens's guard. Obworth passes easily into side control. Nice work. Obworth lands a few punches from side control. Stevens is trying to improve his position. Both fighters have adopted an aggressive gameplan on the ground! This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff! Obworth tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Obworth has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!
That's one minute gone in the round. Stevens tries to get back to half guard but can't. Stevens is trying to control Obworth's posture but Obworth avoids it. The ground and pound from Obworth seems to be hitting the mat more than his opponent. Obworth working the head and body with strikes. Obworth cracks Stevens with a big right hand but Stevens just smiles back at him and invites him to have another go.
Stevens prevents Obworth from improving position. Stevens tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Obworth wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control. Obworth looks up at the clock and then as Stevens takes his cue and looks up at the clock too, Obworth smacks him right in the chops with a big elbow! How rude!
It looks like Frank Stevens has been cut. Obworth lands a big elbow and you can see that really hurt Stevens! Obworth senses the opportunity and scores with more strikes - he's put Stevens out! The ref tackles him out of the way to prevent him landing more strikes - this one is all over!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:55 of round 1, we have a winner by way of KO (Strikes). Jacob Obworth! Jacob Obworth decided to hype himself up post fight. It was going well but he went on about it a bit too long and the crowd turned on him a little.
