The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Hardwood thuds his right hand into Kahne's forehead from close range. That could be painful for both fighters. Kahne takes one on the chin but seems OK.
Hardwood avoids a lazy jab quite easily. Kahne has done a lot of speed work in the buildup to this fight. Hardwood lands a lovely overhand right. Lance Hardwood seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. A telegraphed takedown attempt from Kahne is defended easily by Hardwood. Hardwood throws a big counter combination but Kahne scrambles out of danger and avoids any damage. Hardwood scores with a shot to the body.
We've been told by Hardwood's head coaches at Rape Academy (7 elite, 6 2x elite) that he's been working on his takedown defense in preparation for this fight. Hardwood throws a combination but comes up with nothing but fresh air.

and Kahne counters with a shoot takedown into half guard. Hardwood is looking to get back to is feet but Kahne passes into side control.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here. Hardwood defending against the ground and pound. Hardwood tries to escape but Kahne is in control. Hardwood takes an elbow right on the bridge of the nose and winces in pain.

Kahne prevents Hardwood from escaping the position. Hardwood avoids any damage from the ground and pound of Kahne. Hardwood tries to escape but Kahne is in control. Kahne landing a few strikes. Kahne postures up a little and throws a couple of hammerfists but they don't connect properly.
Kahne wants to lay and pray for a moment but Hardwood keeps working.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless. Hardwood defending against the ground and pound. Kahne is looking to take a break and control but Hardwood is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom. Kahne working the head and body with strikes. Kahne throwing strikes but missing, from side control.
The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily. Kahne wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Hardwood, who protects the arm well. Hardwood is working to avoid the ground and pound but Kahne connects with a decent elbow. Kahne trying to control the position but Hardwood is working away.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Kahne prevents Hardwood from escaping the position. Kahne sitting in side control, looking to soften his opponent up with elbows and hammerfists but Hardwood is avoiding damage well and looking to escape the position.
Kahne landing strikes. Kahne working hard here to secure a kimura but he's not really in the right position for it. Hardwood parries the strikes from Kahne easily there. Kahne is wary of posturing up too much because it might enable Hardwood to escape.
Kahne scores with a couple of short elbows. Hardwood is pushing Kahne's head away, looking to escape. Kahne manages to hold on to the position though.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Kahne misses with an attempted head punch from side control. Hardwood tries to escape but Kahne is in control. Hardwood takes a nasty elbow to the side of the head. Kahne works a knee to the body and follows up with a nice elbow to the head. Kahne is trying to get an arm triangle but Hardwood is defending well. Kahne in side control, throwing shots but Hardwood defends. Kahne throwing shots but missing, from side control. Hardwood tries to escape but Kahne is in control. Hardwood is not content to let Kahne control the position. Kahne scoring with punches from side control. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Ken Kahne dominated that round. The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!
Hardwood feints a jab promting Kahne to slip. Hardwood then demonstrates his capabilities by jabbing again. Kahne slips again and ducks right into an uppercut. Hardwood lands a body shot.
Kahne fails with the takedown. Hardwood takes a jab on the nose there. A little bit of blood seems to be coming out. Hopefully that won't affect his breathing.
Kahne shoots in but no luck this time. A little feinted left hand from Hardwood on the counter but he doesn't commit to it. Hardwood lands a lovely overhand right. Decent striking displayed by Hardwood there. Kahne throws an overhand right that lands on Hardwood's shoulder, as Hardwood tries to avoid the shot. Hardwood with a hook. Kahne looking to land some kicks to the body here.
Hardwood avoids the body shot from Kahne.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd. Hardwood misses with a body shot.
Kahne throws a hook to the body but it doesn't connect.
Hardwood swung with a counter right hand that didn't connect. Hardwood takes a shot right to the bread basket. A telegraphed right hand from Hardwood misses the target. A looping hook to the body misses from Hardwood. Kahne does a little dance to reset his feet. Kahne lands a lovely overhand right. Lance Hardwood is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
That's one minute gone in the round. Hardwood rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Kahne moves out of range and avoids them all easily. A cross from Hardwood lands. Kahne with a hook.
Hardwood is rocked! Hardwood walks into a picture perfect straight right hand from Kahne! He's gone down face first to the canvas, unconscious before he even hit the floor! Ohhhh. My. Goodness! That boys and girls was a beautiful knockout! Give that man a biscuit!
