PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Long Wang (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Yuki Masakazu (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Masakazu is bobbing his head along to his entrance song: Roken / DEEP MACS HEADBANGERS. Both fighters look fresh as a daisy as they make their way towards the cage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 10 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Long Wang!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 8 - 4 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Yuki Masakazu!
The judges for this bout are James Glass, Andrew Berry and Sam Margolis.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Masakazu moves forwards but Wang connects with a nice, crisp jab.
Masakazu is on the wrong end of a nice combination from Wang.

Masakazu throws the overhand right but ducks down into a quick takedown attempt. Wang was covering up waiting for the punch and Masakazu finishes the takedown easily into guard.

Wang has been talking about how he's improved his wrestling in the run up to the fight so let's see if that's enough to sway the balance.
Masakazu stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Wang swivels though and keeps the full guard.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Wang doesn't do any damage with a couple of strikes from the bottom.
Masakazu slips nicely into half guard.
Masakazu takes a deep breath and rests his weight momentarily on top of his opponent, to control the position.

Masakazu seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Wang does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.
Wang tries to get to full guard but Masakazu has control of the leg.
Masakazu wants to free his trapped foot but Wang is holding on for dear life with his legs.
Wang might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.
Masakazu is thwarting Wang's attempts to control the position.
Wang is trying to get back to full guard.
Wang is working for an escape here. He's hooked one of Masakazu's legs and he's managed to sneak out and take Masakazu's back!
The crowd hopeful of a finish here - Wang's supporters are on their feet, screaming for him to go for the rear naked choke.

Masakazu takes a big shot to the side of the head.
Wang lands a couple of good shots to his opponent's body and a final shot to the head. Good little attack there by Wang.

Masakazu wants to control his opponent's hands but Wang gets his hands free.
Masakazu staying busy and making it hard for Wang to control.
Masakazu trying to control the action but Wang just sinks the hooks in.

The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
Wang is not going to allow Masakazu to sit and survive in this position.
Wang tries to keep control of the position but Masakazu is staying busy.
Masakazu turns into Wang and is now in his guard.
Wang controls Masakazu momentarily but Masakazu frees himself.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Wang lands a beautiful sweep and he's now moved into his opponent's guard.

Wang loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry.
Wang content to strike from guard, landing some decent shots.
Wang slows down the pace of the fight, as he sits in guard.
Masakazu wants to sweep but no luck.
Wang has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

Long Wang dominated that round.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.



Wang clinches up with Masakazu and pushes him back against the cage.

Masakazu moves out of range of the strikes.
Masakazu with the counter takedown but Wang avoids it easily.
Masakazu keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl.
Masakazu shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Wang as he avoids it easily.
Wang seemed to be looking to counter by closing the distance.

Masakazu working hard here to secure a kimura but he's not really in the right position for it.
Wang is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Masakazu can do to turn this around?
Masakazu wants to control but Wang is keeping him busy.

Masakazu thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead.
Long Wang overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.

Masakazu swings around for an armbar but Wang sees it coming a mile off and turns beautifully into Masakazu's guard.

Wang is trying to control but can't.

Masakazu wants to control from the top but Wang keeps moving.
Masakazu stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Wang swivels though and keeps the full guard.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Masakazu is trying to control the action in half guard but Wang is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard.
Masakazu is controlling the pace.
Masakazu is looking to advance position but Wang won't allow it.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.
A telegraphed right hand from Wang misses the target.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!

A telegraphed takedown attempt from Masakazu is defended easily by Wang.

That was a close second round but I would say that Long Wang will probably get the nod.

Masakazu tries to drive through with a takedown attempt but Wang defends well and Masakazu ends up having to push Wang into the cage where they will battle it out in the clinch.

Wang closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.

Masakazu won't allow Wang to pass to mount.
Masakazu has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Wang is working away from the top position though.

Wang slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.
Masakazu is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Wang wants to pass to mount but Masakazu is defending the position.
Wang is just sitting in half guard, waiting for something to happen.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Wang throws a leg kick but Masakazu moved away.

Masakazu feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.

Well Wang has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
