PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Raul Mendez (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Brad Doyles (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). There are an array of beautiful celebrities at ringside tonight! I wonder if any of them paid for their tickets.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 10 - 7 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Raul Mendez!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 5 - 6 - 0, fighting out of London, Brad Doyles!
The judges for this bout are Albert Achterberg, Saam Ante and Nard Betker.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Doyles showing good head movement there, avoiding the strikes from Mendez.
Mendez digs a good body shot into Doyles's ribs.

Doyles has managed to clinch.

Doyles manages to pull guard.
Mendez won't allow Doyles to sweep him here.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Mendez wants to control from the top but Doyles keeps moving.

Mendez stands and steps away. Doyles gets to his feet too and we're back to the striking game.
Doyles fails with a takedown attempt.
Mendez looks to have improved his striking defense since last time we saw him fight.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Mendez decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard.
Mendez wants to get back to his feet.

That's one minute gone in the round.

Mendez stands up from half guard.
Doyles fails with a takedown attempt.
Doyles tries to bum rush Mendez with a series of wild strikes but Mendez uses good footwork to avoid the assault.
Doyles shoots for a double leg takedown but Mendez sprawls well. He's pushed Doyles's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.
Raul Mendez has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Brad Doyles.
Some wild striking there from Mendez.
Mendez stuns Doyles with a nice body shot, before stepping back out of range.
Mendez misses with a series of wild punches.

Mendez changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Doyles looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.
Doyles wants to get back to his feet but Mendez is dominant here and he's now got Doyles's back!

That's two minutes gone in the round.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Mendez lands an elbow to the side of the head.
Mendez lands with a big left hand that may well have hurt his opponent. Can Doyles hold on?!
Mendez is landing with strikes. Doyles can't take much more of this.
Doyles breaks Mendez's hooks off and manages to turn into his guard.
Doyles is fighting to break Mendez's control of his arms but Mendez is doing a good job of controlling the position at the moment.

Doyles avoids a guillotine attempt easily.

Doyles drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Doyles jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Mendez wants to get back to his feet but Doyles is in a dominant position and won't allow it.

Doyles postures up as if he's going to throw some strikes but drops back for an ankle! Mendez is in big trouble! He looks ready to tap! But no, he's escaped and dives on top of Doyles, into his guard.

Mendez is working Doyles over from the guard. He should look to pass the guard and do a little more damage with these strikes.
Mendez wants to get up but he can't break Doyles's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here.
Doyles has momentary wrist control but Mendez slips an elbow through the middle.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Mendez has controlled the position for a good 20 seconds, which will no doubt be starting to frustrate his opponent.
Mendez missing there with some ground and pound from the guard.
Mendez looking to pass the guard.

Doyles is active off his back here, looking for submissions.
Doyles not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Mendez wants to stand but Doyles is controlling his posture from full guard.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Raul Mendez dominated that round.
That's time! Back to the action!


Doyles throws a jab, cross combination which is slipped

so Mendez counters with a double leg into guard. Good agility.
Mendez trying to stand up but can't free himself from Doyles's guard.

Doyles is working an open guard so Mendez takes the opportunity to get back to his feet.
Doyles tries to close the distance and clinch but Mendez swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.

Mendez bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control.
Doyles wants to control but Mendez postures up.

Mendez decides to stand back up.
Doyles tries to score a power double leg takedown but Mendez sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Doyles somewhat.
Doyles throws a body shot but no joy.

Mendez lands a left and a right that send Doyles crashing to the mat, dazed. Mendez thinks about following him to the mat but decides to wave him back up to his feet!


Doyles is rocked!
This has been an exciting period of action!
Doyles bobbing and weaving nicely... He's ducked under a jab and ducks again but ooooooh! Mendez comes at him with an uppercut from hell! Doyles falls to the canvas, unconscious! This one is all over! Oh man, looking at the replay that was right on the button! Doyles was out before he hit the floor!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:59 of round 2, we have a winner by way of KO (Punch). Raul Mendez!
A determined Raul Mendez didn't want to dwell on this fight in his post fight interview. Instead he was more keen to state he wants a title shot. Let's see if he gets it!
