PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Knowles Jackson (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Michael Gornik (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Knowles Jackson!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 3 - 0, fighting out of London, Michael Gornik!
The judges for this bout are Marco Blurström, Johanna Lukiainen and Roosa Järviläinen.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Jackson gets taken down but at least he's managed to land in guard.
Jackson is looking to stand up but Gornik isn't so interested in that idea.
Jackson is adopting a defensive guard.

Gornik got a little sloppy there for a moment and Jackson has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Gornik has managed to get both his arms back between Jackson's legs - danger averted.

Gornik decides to stand up and beckons his opponent to follow.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Jackson goes for a double leg but Gornik avoids the attempt and the two fighters end up clinched against the cage as Gornik continues to drive forward.
Gornik fails to land with a series of punches.

Jackson closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming Gornik to the mat! Gornik manages to get full guard.

Gornik has his hands on Jackson's head, controlling the position.
Jackson wanted to stand there but Gornik had control of the position.

Jackson closes the distance and presses his opponent up against the cage.

Jackson's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.
Gornik misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out.
Jackson throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.
Gornik dives in for a single leg takedown but Jackson sprawls and the fighters end up clinched against the cage.
Sloppy strikes from Jackson. Those never looked like landing.

Gornik throws a head kick that connects with a bit of head and a bit of hand.
Jackson misses with a double jab.
No luck for Gornik with that takedown attempt.
Knowles Jackson has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Michael Gornik.
Jackson shoots in looking for a takedown. Gornik tries to sprawl out of it but Jackson keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Gornik manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.

Gornik is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Gornik is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.

Knowles Jackson dominated that round.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.

Jackson drives through with a really nice takedown into side control.
Gornik manages to get one leg in to regain half guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Jackson decides to stand and escape the position.
Jackson fails with the takedown.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Gornik tries to clinch there but Jackson circles away.
Gornik is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.

Jackson tries to circle away but Gornik has him pinned against the cage.

Jackson jumps guard but Gornik stands there with Jackson around his waist. Jackson gives up and drops back to his feet. We remain in the clinch.
Gornik is looking to take this one to the mat.
Jackson trying to control the position but instead, Gornik has worked for underhooks and has pushed Jackson into the cage.

Gornik is pushing Jackson up against the cage, for a bit of lean and pray action. Action being used the in the loosest possible sense of the word.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
A telegraphed takedown attempt from Gornik is defended easily by Jackson.

Jackson looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Gornik is fending him off so far but Jackson persists. Nope, Gornik circles away and we're back to standing.

The fighters are working up against the cage. Gornik manages to wriggle his way back to his feet, so the fighters are now clinched against the cage.

Gornik breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
Jackson throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Gornik's waist but Gornik gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Jackson off to one side.

Gornik looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily.

Gornik goes for a double leg but Jackson avoids the attempt and the two fighters end up clinched against the cage as Jackson continues to drive forward.

This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

That was a close second round but I would say that Knowles Jackson will probably get the nod.

The pace slowing considerably in the clinch, as Gornik takes a break from that fighting nonsense to think about the finer things in life.
Jackson is trying to force a seperation but Gornik has the dominant position.
Gornik's corner are urging him to control the action in the clinch for a moment, rather than mount any serious offense. I'm sure the crowd appreciate those instructions... not.

Gornik escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Jackson misses with a takedown attempt - Gornik sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.

Gornik avoids the head kick by Jackson.
Jackson throws a leg kick that misses.
Gornik wants to counter the offense by Jackson and move into the clinch position.

Gornik fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt.
It looked like Jackson was looking amped, ready to throw a big counter but didn't commit.

Gornik shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Jackson sprawls well. Jackson wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Gornik gets slowly back to his feet.

Gornik shoots for a double leg takedown but Jackson sprawls well. He's pushed Gornik's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.

Knowles Jackson showed his dominance in that final round.
Well I reckon that's a shut out for Jackson, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
