Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, for the light heavyweight championship of the world! Introducing the champion to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
5 - 1 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Ivan Tarasov! And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
10 - 4 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Eindria Chao! The judges for this bout are Illya Tyunina, Dmitry Maklakov and Ivan Kurochkin.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Tarasov throws out a token jab with nothing on it. Tarasov misses with a series of wild punches.
Chao bobs and weaves and unloads with a good uppercut. Tarasov takes a shot right to the bread basket. Tarasov displays some good footwork, moving neatly out of range as Chao throws out the jab. Chao lands a vicious shot with the stealth of a sniper and the strength of a viper. Are vipers that strong? I can think of lots of things that are stronger than a viper - not many rhyme with sniper though.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Chao cracks Tarasov with a good shot that sees him stumbling back into the cage. Chao throws a jab but it's blocked by Tarasov. Tarasov defending well as Chao loads up on a big left hand.
That's one minute gone in the round. Tarasov shoots in looking for a takedown but Chao manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Tarasov's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away. Chao stuffs the takedown attempt from Tarasov. Tarasov gets slowly back to his feet. Chao scores with a nice right hand.
Tarasov throws a series of punches but Chao moves out of range. Chao gets caught on his heels momentarily as he allows Tarasov to score an easy takedown into full guard. Tarasov drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Tarasov jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position. Tarasov tries to free his leg and advance position but Chao is retaining full guard.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Chao looking for a sweep. Not yet Chao, not yet. Chao trying to control the position.
Tarasov drops back looking for a leg! Chao is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Chao manages to kick Tarasov off! Tarasov jumps back into Chao's guard. Chao keeping full guard, as Tarasov tries to pass. Tarasov is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there. Tarasov trying to control but Chao is working from the bottom.

Tarasov passes easily into side control. Nice work. Chao is trying to stand back up. He's worked his way up against the cage but Tarasov has just dragged him back down to the mat. Tarasov tries for a kimura but Chao is defending well. Tarasov is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Chao is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Chao is trying to get back to half guard. Tarasov is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Chao knows the correct defense though, so he's OK. The strikes coming from Tarasov are missing the target in this wave of attacks. The crowd thankful this round is nearly over. Tarasov looking for an arm triangle but it's way too loose to do anything. Tarasov tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Tarasov has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought! And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Ivan Tarasov dominated that round. That's time! Tarasov's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight.
The fight stays on the outside here - Chao looks like he's thinking about clinching though. Tarasov shoots in for a takedown but Chao shows good takedown defense. Chao displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Tarasov. Tarasov dives in and grabs Chao's left leg, looking for a takedown. Chao pushes down on Tarasov's head and hops out. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Ivan Tarasov. That's going to take a lot out of him. Tarasov misses with a takedown attempt enabling Chao to counter with a crisp jab. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Tarasov shoots for a takedown but Chao saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily. Tarasov shoots in looking for a takedown. Chao tries to sprawl out of it but Tarasov keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Chao manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.
That's one minute gone in the round. No luck for Tarasov with that takedown attempt. Chao throws a looping overhand right but Tarasov ducks down to avoid it. Chao rushes Tarasov and presses him up against the cage. Chao will no doubt start fighting again in a minute but for now he's just having a little rest, leaning Tarasov up against the cage. Chao misses with a shot to the kidneys.
Tarasov jumps guard but his hands slip and he falls flat on his back. Well, he's made himself look a right mug there, as Chao walks away with a smile on his face. Tarasov gets slowly back to his feet and shakes his head. Tarasov takes a swing at Chao's ribcage but misses. Chao is using his reach advantage to land shots from outside his opponent's range. Tarasov tries to drive through with a takedown attempt but Chao defends well and Tarasov ends up having to push Chao into the cage where they will battle it out in the clinch. Tarasov drives through with a takedown into Chao's guard. Let's see what he can do from the top position.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Tarasov wants to control from the top but Chao keeps moving. Tarasov works a leg free and moves into half guard. Tarasov sitting in half guard, looking to land shots. Chao defending well though. Chao really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Tarasov. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out. Tarasov is trying to work for a kimura but Chao is defending well.
Chao has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Tarasov is working away from the top position though. Ivan Tarasov overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far. Chao is in trouble now - Tarasov has advanced to mount! Chao tries to hold on but Tarasov postures up.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Tarasov can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as Chao is looking to escape. Chao blocking the ground and pound. Tarasov is in full mount, looking to secure a guillotine but Chao is surviving well by controlling Tarasov's body position as best he can. Tarasov is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Chao can do to turn this around? Chao tries to lock up and control but Tarasov gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away. Tarasov thowing strikes but they're hitting the gloves, not doing any damage. Tarasov throwing strikes here but Chao is writhing around nicely and avoiding any serious damage.
Tarasov looking for an armbar but decides to keep the dominant position instead. Chao is desperately trying to improve his position but Tarasov has a good base and remains in mount.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Tarasov jumps to side control looking for an arm triangle but Chao manages to avoid the submission attempt. Tarasov in side control, working for a kimura. He's got hold of an arm and he's torquing it... Chao is tapping! That's the end of the fight!

Ivan Tarasov really struggled to get his t-shirt on before his hand was raised. Making sure that Mohito Fightwear logo gets some air time is pretty tricky when you're all sweaty.
