Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Joshua Redding (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Guillermo Mendez (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Redding comes to the cage accompanied by Alive. Guillermo Mendez told me before the fight that he's been watching a lot of DVDs so let's see if that helps him in this one! I can't wait to find out!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
3 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Joshua Redding! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
5 - 2 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Guillermo Mendez! The judges for this bout are Konstantin Menshow, Fedor Mirinova and Ivan Kurochkin.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Redding moves out of range of the body kick from Mendez.
Mendez tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Redding swivels and escapes. Mendez closes this distance looking for a takedown but Redding circles away. Redding's jab looks to have found its range, popping Mendez under the eye. Mendez misses with a takedown attempt and Redding counters with a body kick that brings a smile to the face of both fighters. Joshua Redding has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Guillermo Mendez. Mendez shoots in but no luck this time. Redding throws a quick counter kick to the body but Mendez avoids it. Excellent takedown into side control there by Redding. Mendez takes an elbow right on the bridge of the nose and winces in pain.
A lull in the action here.
That's one minute gone in the round. Redding wants to control but Mendez is keeping him busy. You can see the frustration on Mendez's face, being in this tough position on the bottom. Redding decides to stand back up. Mendez tries for a takedown but Redding sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily. Redding delivers a nice body kick. Mendez fails with a takedown attempt. Horrible takedown attempt by Mendez or perhaps it was just good defense by Redding, which made it look bad. No luck for Mendez with that takedown attempt. Redding is looking to counter punch. Mendez looks winded!
That's two minutes gone in the round. A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Mendez. As Mendez looks to move away, Redding throws a big counter combo but Mendez just gets out of the way. Redding stuffs the takedown. Redding appears to be looking for a big counter. Mendez tries to clinch but Redding is having none of it. Redding jinks towards his opponent looking like he wants to counter with a mid kick but doesn't commit. Redding throws a right and a left that Mendez avoids nicely. Redding scores with a push kick. Redding is looking for a takedown here. He's shot in and has managed to get it, finishing up in Mendez's half guard. Redding trying to mount his opponent but Mendez defends it. This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff! Redding prevents Mendez from improving his position.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Redding scoring with strikes to the body and head. Redding sitting in half guard, looking to land shots. Mendez defending well though. Mendez missing with punches from the bottom.
Redding content to control rather than advance. Mendez looking for submissions from an awkward position here. Redding is scoring with some nice ground and pound from the dominant position. Mendez actively working from the bottom here.
The fighters are going at a pretty good pace and they're both starting to sweat now. Redding decides he's had enough of the ground and stands up.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Mendez with a lazy takedown attempt and Redding counters with an inside leg kick. Mendez shoots in but doesn't get the takedown and Redding counters with a straight punch to the midsection. Guillermo Mendez seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Mendez steps to his left, right into the path of a big body kick from Redding. That one must have hurt. A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Mendez. Redding ducks down and throws a hook to the body. Mendez misses with a takedown attempt and Redding counters with a leg kick then a big left hand that sends Mendez down! Redding is looking to finish but Mendez is intelligently defending himself.
Mendez is rocked! This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff! Redding stands up from Mendez's guard - Redding perhaps looking for a knockout. Mendez is still on wobbly legs! Can Redding finish him? Mendez takes a push kick to the midsection and stumbles backwards. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Joshua Redding dominated that round. That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.
Redding lands a hook that stumbles Mendez back into the cage. Redding follows up with a straight and another hook that land right on the button, dropping Mendez to the canvas! Redding pounces and lands several unanswered shots - Mendez has had enough and taps out! This one is all over!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 0:05 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Strikes). Joshua Redding! After winning the bout, Joshua Redding thanked all his fans and promised he'd do even better in his next fight. The crowd seemed to love his humility.
