Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Youssef El Basmati (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and John Rekis (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Rekis has chosen AC/DC - Thunderstruck as his entrance music. Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Youssef El Basmati!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 12 - 14 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, John Rekis!
The judges for this bout are George Francis, Daniel Franklin and Tiny Johnson.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
El Basmati misses with an uppercut.
El Basmati throws a low kick but it's checked well by Rekis.
El Basmati scores with a nice right hand.
El Basmati scores with a reasonable looking shot to the body. Rekis doesn't seem bothered though.
El Basmati looking to take his opponent's legs away with the low kicks.
Rekis fails with a takedown attempt from distance.
El Basmati appeared to be looking to counter that last move with a leg kick.
El Basmati throws a hook but Rekis blocks it.
El Basmati pulls out of a head kick attempt.
Rekis thinks about the counter body kick.
El Basmati leaves Rekis with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
El Basmati pivots as if he's going to throw a leg kick but stops half way.
El Basmati scores with a nice one two combo and darts back out of range to avoid anything coming in the opposite direction.
El Basmati tries to bum rush Rekis with a series of wild strikes but Rekis uses good footwork to avoid the assault.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Rekis has his takedown stuffed
and Rekis takes a counter punch right on the button for his troubles.
Youssef El Basmati has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of John Rekis.
Rekis throws a right hand that El Basmati ducks under and follows up with a left that El Basmati also avoids with ease.
Rekis needs to keep his hands up - El Basmati had a free shot at his head there.
El Basmati throws a big shot that misses.
Rekis wants to counter the offense by El Basmati and move into the clinch position.
El Basmati throws a poor cross that misses

and Rekis counters with a nice double leg into side control. El Basmati won't be happy with that.
Rekis in side control, just content to control the action for now.
My spies in Den of Tears (22 coaches, $900 fee) inform me that Rekis has been getting involved in the gym's BJJ sparring sessions. Let's see whether that pays dividends!
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Rekis tries to move into full mount but can't pass El Basmati's legs.
El Basmati on his back here. We all know that wrestlers don't like being on their back so let's see if El Basmati tries to get out of the position.
Rekis is looking to take a break and control but El Basmati is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
El Basmati knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Rekis on the ground.

Rekis is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but El Basmati is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now.
Rekis is looking to take a break and control but El Basmati is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
Rekis tries to land with some ground and pound but misses.
El Basmati tries to bench press Rekis off him but Rekis keeps the position.
Rekis sitting in side control, looking to soften his opponent up with elbows and hammerfists but El Basmati is avoiding damage well and looking to escape the position.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Rekis moves into full mount!

That's three minutes gone in the round.

Rekis has control of El Basmati's right arm, working for a kimura. It's a bit of a token attempt though and El Basmati regains control of the situation pretty easily.
Rekis looking to ground and pound but El Basmati is blocking nicely.

Rekis wants to finish this one by submission but El Basmati is holding onto his waist, trying to prevent any attacks from Rekis.

It looks like Youssef El Basmati has been cut.
Rekis is landing with some decent strikes but El Basmati is trying to advance his position so the referee is letting the fight continue.
Rekis throws an elbow from mount that misses. Lucky escape for El Basmati because Rekis loaded up on that one.
El Basmati is wriggling around trying to escape.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Rekis cracks El Basmati with a nasty head shot there - the crowd let out an audible gasp there, as the noise reverberated around the arena.

It looks like Rekis might be adopting somewhat of a lay and pray gameplan here, which I'm sure won't go down too well with the paying fans in attendance... Or the ring announcers come to think of it.

Youssef El Basmati's cut is bleeding quite badly. He's got to try and protect it.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Rekis lands a couple of good shots and El Basmati has given up his back, trying to escape the position!


Jeez, Youssef El Basmati's cut is really nasty now. The referee must be thinking about getting that checked.

The referee calls the doctor in to look at Youssef El Basmati's cut. Oh no, the doctor has called an end to the bout!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:58 of round 1, we have a winner by way of TKO (Cut). John Rekis!
