PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Scott Manning (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Alfred Cambridge (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Cambridge is bouncing up and down as he enters the arena, backed by Blur - Song 2. Alfred Cambridge told me before the fight that he's been watching a lot of DVDs so let's see if that helps him in this one! I can't wait to find out!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Scott Manning!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Alfred Cambridge!
The judges for this bout are Chris Downing, Daniel Franklin and Cecil Peabody.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Cambridge cracks Manning with a nice right hand that draws applause from the crowd.
Manning avoids the body shot from Cambridge.
Manning throws a big counter combination but Cambridge scrambles out of danger and avoids any damage.
Cambridge looks more muscular than last time we saw him. He must have been on the weights.
Manning misses with a straight right.

Cambridge feints and as Manning raises his hands in defense, Cambridge changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard.

Manning wriggles free and stands up.
Alfred Cambridge seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Cambridge fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Manning, pushing him back against the cage.
Manning has Cambridge pressed against the cage, preventing Cambridge from circling away and getting back to striking at range.
Cambridge is trying to push Manning away but Manning has him pressed against the cage, so he's going nowhere.
Manning prevents Cambridge from breaking the clinch.

Cambridge escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.

Manning gets a takedown into half guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Manning thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Cambridge's head.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Manning missing with some ground and pound from the half guard.
Cambridge is refusing to be controlled, as Manning sits in half guard.

Cambridge pushes Manning off looking to stand but Manning dives back in and keeps control.

Manning is pressing down on Cambridge's thigh, looking to free his foot. Cambridge is holding on for now.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.
Cambridge misses with a two punch combination.
Cambridge misses with a jab, cross combination.
Manning misses the shot to the body.

Manning closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard.
Manning wants to pass the guard but Cambridge is defending well.

Cambridge wants to get back to his feet.
Cambridge is not content to let Manning control the position.
Manning perhaps working for something from half guard, or maybe not. It looks like he's just sitting there.
Manning thows a huge punch but Cambridge dodges it nicely.
We've had a lack of effective grappling in the last minute or so, which could well see a referee standup.
The referee calls for the fighters to work.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Cambridge throws a series of punches but Manning avoids them all with ease.
It looked like Manning wanted to counter with a hook but didn't fully commit.
Cambridge rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Manning moves out of range and avoids them all easily.
Manning wants to clinch.
And an attempted straight right on the counter from Cambridge! But no joy.

so Manning counters with a double leg into guard. Good agility.
Cambridge is looking to stand back up... there's a bit of a scramble and Manning dives into side control.

Manning has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.
Manning wants to lay and pray for a moment but Cambridge keeps working.

Manning tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Manning has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Scott Manning will probably get the nod.
That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.

Manning looks to land a combination but Cambridge avoids it well.

Manning shoots in and gets a takedown into half guard. Manning showed some decent athleticism there.
Manning wants to pass to mount but Cambridge is defending the position.
Manning is looking to take a break and control but Cambridge is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Manning is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Cambridge is just riding it out for now. Manning eventually gives up the hold.

Cambridge really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Manning. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Manning accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.
Manning is sitting in guard, working some ground and pound.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.

Manning throws a strike but Cambridge rolls with it and manages to sweep. Now he's in guard on top.

Manning seems keen to control rather than go for a submission, at least for now.
Cambridge wanted to stand there but Manning had control of the position.

Manning bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Cambridge's guard.

Manning missing there with some ground and pound from the guard.

Manning distracts Cambridge with his right hand and drops a big elbow with his other arm.
Manning seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.

Cambridge thuds a left hand into Manning's body.

Manning has his head slapped from side to side by a 3 punch combination. That must have hurt him.

Manning sneaks out the side door and pushes Cambridge away - he's back to his feet. The crowd show their appreciation for the escape.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

Cambridge gets tackled into the cage by Manning. Manning maintains the clinch.
Cambridge fails to land with a short punch on the inside.
Cambridge is looking to break free of the clinch but Manning has double underhooks.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close second round but I would say that Scott Manning will probably get the nod.
Well, the break between rounds is over. Let's get back to the scrappin! Ladies and gentlemen, this is the final round!

If this pace continues, the referee will definitely step in and force a standup.
Manning is working for an escape here. He's hooked one of Cambridge's legs and he's managed to sneak out and take Cambridge's back!

Manning is working for the rear naked choke. He has one arm under the chin but Cambridge has hold of the other arm. A bit of a stalemate here.

Manning is working the ground and pound. Can Cambridge escape?
Cambridge prevents Manning from getting a body triangle.
Manning will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.

So, who will make the next big move? In this position it could be crucial.
Scott Manning overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.

Manning has his hand under the chin of his opponent looking for the choke. He's nearly got it! This one could be all over! But no, Cambridge has freed his hand and lives to survive another… well, another couple of seconds at least!

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Cambridge is trying to get back to his feet but he's not managed it yet.

Manning is staying calm and holding on to the back position, whilst working on a rear naked choke. Cambridge is defending well though. Manning let's go of the attempt for now.
Cambridge is trying to get back to his feet but Manning has full control of the position and if anything, Cambridge has just worked his way into a worse spot.

Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!

Well I reckon that's a shut out for Manning, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
