PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Edule Edwards (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Thomas Hawk (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Hawk is bobbing his head along to his entrance song: Deadwood. Both fighters look fresh as a daisy as they make their way towards the cage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 5 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Edule Edwards!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 11 - 7 - 1, fighting out of London, Thomas Hawk!
The judges for this bout are Tarja Halkonen, Roosa Järviläinen and Arvi Lind.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Edwards misses with a takedown attempt
and Hawk counters with a nice uppercut.
Hawk throws the left hand but Edwards avoids the punch easily.
Edwards seemed to be looking to counter by closing the distance.
Hawk misses with a kick to the body
and Edwards makes the exchange count by landing a cracking kick to the body. Hawk really felt that one!
The fighters circling - Hawk throws out the jab but it was never going to land.
Edwards throws a lazy uppercut

and Hawk counters by clinching up.

Hawk is looking to take this one to the mat.

Hawk blocks a couple of punches on the inside.
Hawk tries for a takedown but Edwards manages to get underhooks.
Hawk wants to take the fight to the mat but Edwards manages to get underhooks and keep the fight in the clinch.
Edule Edwards has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Thomas Hawk.
Hawk prevents a body shot from Edwards.
Edwards tries a body shot but Hawk blocks it.

Edwards is fighting off a takedown attempt but Hawk is just too persistent for him and manages to trip Edwards to the mat. Edwards regains guard as soon as the fighters hit the mat.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

Edwards looking for submissions off his back, moving his hips, looking for an opening.
Edwards has Hawk pulled in close to control his posture.
In the pre-fight buildup videos we saw Hawk working his ground and pound in the gym. He isn't landing a great percentage of his ground strikes so far though.

Hawk pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Edwards is keeping the position for now.
Edwards looking to sweep here. No luck so far.
Edwards is adopting a defensive guard.
Edwards will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.
Hawk postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.
Edwards wants to sweep but no luck.
Hawk keeps in close for a moment and lands a decent shot to the side of Edwards's head.
Hawk stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Edwards swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Edwards doesn't do any damage with a couple of strikes from the bottom.
Hawk tries to free his leg and advance position but Edwards is retaining full guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
Edwards has momentary wrist control but Hawk slips an elbow through the middle.

There's a bit of a scramble here and now Edwards is on top in guard.

Edwards trying to control the position from guard on top but Hawk is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Hawk has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.
Edwards's corner is telling him to maintain position.
Edwards works over Hawk with some ground and pound from guard.
Hawk looking for a sweep. Not yet Hawk, not yet.
There's a bit of a scramble here and now Hawk is on top in guard.


That's three minutes gone in the round.
Hawk connects with a couple of short punches.
Hawk won't allow Edwards to sweep him here.
Edwards is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.
Hawk stands and throws Edwards's legs to the side, diving into side control.
Edwards manages to get back to half guard.
Edwards regains full guard. Nicely done.
Hawk makes a bit of distance and scores with some ground and pound, still in guard.
Edwards is trying to keep Hawk in close.
Edwards keeping moving, preventing Hawk from controlling successfully.

That's four minutes gone in the round.

Edwards is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Hawk defends well.
Hawk slips nicely into half guard.
Hawk tries to pass the half guard into mount. Edwards knows what he's doing though and prevents the attempt.
Hawk wants to advance to full mount but Edwards doesn't think that's going to happen and regains full guard instead.
Hawk trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Hawk trying to control the position from guard on top but Edwards is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Thomas Hawk dominated that round.
That's time! Back to the action!


Hawk looks to score with a combo but nothing lands.
Nice takedown defense from Hawk. No joy for Edwards on that attempt.
Edwards misses with a body punch
and Hawk makes him pay by landing a thudding low kick.
A leg kick checked by Hawk.
Edwards takes one on the button.
Edwards avoids a low kick by using good footwork.
Some bone on bone action there as Edwards checks a low kick. Luckily it wasn't a particularly hard one.
Edule Edwards seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
A decent looking body kick lands there for Edwards.
Hawk has been the more effective fighter overall so far.
Hawk lands a head shot.
Edwards scores with a jab to the head.
Edwards connects with the punch.
Edwards tries a low kick but Hawk avoids it.
Hawk throws a jab to the body, straight down the pipe. Boom. That sent Edwards stumbling backwards but he manages to regain his composure quickly.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Hawk throws the left hand but Edwards avoids the punch easily.
Hawk works his jab well there, keeping his opponent at a distance.
Edwards connects with a high kick.

Edwards checks a low kick from Hawk.
Edwards throws a quick inside leg kick.
Hawk has his hands up protecting his head but a hook from Edwards finds it's way round the side to connect with Hawk's head.
Edwards misses with a body shot. Nice footwork from Hawk.
Hawk lands a jab-cross combination.
Edwards scores with a punch to the gut of his opponent.
Hawk throws a nice inside leg kick.
Hawk tries to check a leg kick but that clearly hurt him.
Thomas Hawk seems to be getting the better of the standup.
Edwards fails to land with the punch combination there - jab, cross, hook, miss, miss, miss.
Edwards moves in looking to clinch but Hawk pushes him off.
Hawk takes a jab right on the nose. That must have hurt but he shrugs his shoulders and looks to return the favor.
Edwards misses with a telegraphed body shot
and Hawk counters with a stiff right hand.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Like a baseball bat into the meat of his leg there - nice leg kick by Hawk.
Edwards takes a punch right to his stomach. That took the wind out of him momentarily.
Edwards jabs. That one connects to the head of his opponent.
Edwards swings and misses with a hook to the body.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Edwards fails miserably with a takedown attempt.
Hawk moves out of range of the body kick from Edwards.
Edwards buckles his opponent's knee momentarily with a nice leg kick.
Edwards uses good footwork to get in and out, landing a nice hook.
Hawk thuds his right hand into Edwards's forehead from close range. That could be painful for both fighters.
Hawk avoids the head kick by Edwards.
Hawk looks to score with a jab to the body but Edwards is just out of range.
A jab from Hawk finds it's way through Edwards's defenses.
Edwards blocks a low kick nicely.
As Hawk tries to get set, Edwards tries to push him back and clinch up but Hawk manages to avoid the attempt.
Edwards attempts a low kick but it misses it's target.
Hawk checks a low kick. Bone on bone - not my idea of a good time.
A little jabbing left from Hawk on the counter but it doesn't find it's target.
Hawk swings and misses with a hook to the body.
A decent looking cross lands there for Hawk.


Edwards is rocked!
That's a knee to de groin and it's over and out! Edwards crumples to the ground after an illegal strike from Hawk - the referee stops the clock and Edwards gets 5 minutes to recover from that one. "I'm sorry" says Hawk. Edwards manages to get back to his feet and the fight resumes.
Oh Edwards is still all over the place! His legs are completely gone! Will he be able to recover?!!
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Hawk lands a huge takedown. Edwards is out but the ref is slow to react and Hawk lands 3 more undefended punches before the fight is stopped. Brutal finish. Edwards lies on the canvas for a good minute before the doctors bring him round. Good to see he's OK.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:05 of round 2, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Thomas Hawk!
A relieved looking Thomas Hawk thanked the fans for their support and gave the usual line about them being amazing. They seemed to believe that he actually meant it.
