Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, for the super heavyweight championship of the world! Introducing the champion to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Kenny McCormick! And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Abioye Nazari ! The judges for this bout are Tiny Johnson, Wesley Smith and George Francis.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Nazari is looking to land body kicks. McCormick scores with a nice head shot. We can't be sure of the tactics at this early stage but we have heard that Nazari has been working on his takedowns a lot in the buildup to the fight and we can only assume he's going to look to take this to the mat. McCormick is trying hard to land a takedown here. Nazari sprawls well and keeps this one on the feet. Wow, both these guys are really going for it! McCormick throws a series of punches but Nazari moves out of range. Kenny McCormick seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Nice takedown defense from Nazari . No joy for McCormick on that attempt. Nazari connects with a looping left hand that seems like it dazed McCormick momentarily.
Nazari misses with a straight right. Nazari drives through with a takedown into McCormick's guard. Let's see what he can do from the top position. Nazari passes into half guard. Nazari looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks McCormick with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position. Nazari is trying to work for a kimura. This could be trouble! No, McCormick has managed to free his arm - good work. Nazari scoring with strikes to the body and head. This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff! Nazari tries to pass the half guard into mount. McCormick knows what he's doing though and prevents the attempt. Nazari works his way into full mount! Nazari looking to finish McCormick with some ground and pound. This is bad for McCormick!
It looks like Kenny McCormick has been cut.
That's one minute gone in the round. McCormick is controlling an arm, preventing Nazari from taking his back. Although keeping him in mount is no better to be honest.
Nazari working for a submission but McCormick is keeping him at bay. Nazari connects with a couple of good shots from mount.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Nazari lands a big elbow - McCormick is in trouble! More strikes from the mount and McCormick is forced to tap out!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:44 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Strikes). Abioye Nazari ! Abioye Nazari retains his super heavyweight title! A very excited looking Abioye Nazari rambled incoherently for about 5 minutes post fight about how awesome he is. It was kinda funny for a while but then everyone got annoyed.
