The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Good work by Salazar as he checks the leg kick. Hudson has managed to clinch.
Salazar has Hudson pushed against the cage. Salazar pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat. Hudson could do with losing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely. Hudson looks for the body kick but Salazar saw that one coming. A head kick misses from Salazar. Salazar has been spending a lot of time sparring his boxing in the run up to the fight, trying to sharpen up those hands and look for a knockout. Hudson lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but Salazar circles away quickly and effectively. Salazar closes the distance and clinches. Hudson tries to break free but Salazar pushes him back against the cage. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Salazar manages to break the clinch.
Salazar changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Hudson tries to avoid it but Salazar manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Hudson to the ground. Hudson escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet. Hudson dives in and scores a takedown into Salazar's guard. We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake. Salazar is working actively from the bottom, looking for submissions. He's escaped his hips to the side and he's going for an armbar! Hudson has his hands clasped together but Salazar extends and breaks Hudson's desperate grasp, forcing a tap out due to armbar! Nice BJJ displayed there by Salazar.
Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:56 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Armbar). Willie Salazar!
