PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Simon Strange (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Nelson Muntz (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). I'm sure you'll be fascinated to know that I was talking to some pointless Z list celebrity before the fight and he thought that Nelson Muntz was going to win. Let's see if he was right.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 18 - 9 - 0, fighting out of New York, Simon Strange!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 40 - 11 - 1, fighting out of Sydney, Nelson Muntz!
The judges for this bout are John Roberts, Bruno Lombardi and Russell Pearce.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Muntz uses some good footwork to avoid the body shot by Strange.
Strange misses with a left hand
and Muntz counters with a straight punch to the midsection.
Muntz's coach down at Homunculus Alembic was telling us pre-fight that they have been working on Muntz's balance. Obviously they view that as a key factor in the outcome of this fight.
Strange walks into a stiff left hand from Muntz.

Strange escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Muntz gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.

Strange throws a hook to the body but it doesn't connect.

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Simon Strange will probably get the nod.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.


A solid leg kick lands there for Muntz.
Strange throws a low kick but Muntz moves out of range easily.
Muntz leaves Strange with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.

Strange bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control.

Strange wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Muntz, who protects the arm well.

Strange is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Muntz can do to turn this around?

Strange is nestled in close to Muntz, controlling him well. He's worked in a nice elbow to the side of the head as well, for good measure.

Strange has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.

Strange is working Muntz over from the guard. He should look to pass the guard and do a little more damage with these strikes.

Muntz lands a nice looking kick to the body. Strange takes a step back to recover.
Strange darts in looking for a takedown but Muntz gets double underhooks and turns Strange into the cage.
Strange has his hands up protecting his head but a hook from Muntz finds it's way round the side to connect with Strange's head.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!

Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Oooooooooooh, not good. A low kick from Muntz lands where it shouldn't have, right in the... well, you know what he did? He kicked him in the penis. He's injured, injured bad. The referee sends both fighters to their corners and Strange has 5 minutes to recover. He's OK now though... a thumbs up from Strange and we're back underway with a touch of gloves.

Strange tries to close the distance and clinch but Muntz swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.
Strange is on the wrong end of a nice combination from Muntz.

Muntz stuffs the takedown.
Strange shoots in for a takedown but Muntz shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet.

Strange takes a shot to the eye socket. That's gotta hurt.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.

And that's the end of the fight!
Nelson Muntz comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I think Strange has won this one but let's see what the judges have to say. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
